[edit] Mixed martial arts career

In April 2006, Lauzon won an eight-man tournament, defeating three fighters in one night, in the World Fighting League, and was crowned the WFL Grand Prix Champion. Lauzon was also named 2004 Massachusetts fighter of the year by MassMMA.net, a site that is ran by his good friend Rick Caldwell. Lauzon made his debut in the UFC versus former UFC lightweight champion Jens "Little Evil" Pulver at UFC 63 on September 23, 2006. He won by KO in 48 seconds, an upset in which he was an underdog at 7 to 1 odds. [1]

Lauzon was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 5, which featured lightweights exclusively. He was on B.J. Penn's team, against a team coached by Jens Pulver. Joe defeated Brian Geraghty in the preliminary round. Joe defeated Cole Miller in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, Joe lost a unanimous decision to Manvel Gamburyan. In the finale, he defeated Brandon Melendez via submission (triangle choke) at 2:09 of round two. Lauzon is currently living in Hilo, Hawaii and is training full-time with B.J. Penn.[2] At UFC 78, Lauzon defeated Jason Reinhardt via rear-naked choke in 1:14 seconds of round one. At UFC Fight Night 13, Lauzon was recently defeated by Kenny Florian by a TKO from a mount position. [3]
