Jodie Campbell

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jodie Campbell is an Australian politician. She was elected in the 2007 Federal Election as an Australian Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives in the Division of Bass in Northern Tasmania.

Ms Campbell defeated sitting member Michael Ferguson by a narrow margin of 1% remarkably after scoring the lowest primary vote of any federal politician in Australia (37%).

Ms Campbell's history in politics goes back to the downfall of the Australian airline Ansett in 2001 where she worked as an official for the Australian Services Union, a position she used to organise call centre workers.[1][2] She entered local politics in February 2002, becoming an Alderman on the Launceston City Council filling position vacated following the death of Alderman and Mayor John Lees. She held the position of Deputy Mayor for two years and resigned to concentrate on her federal election campaign [3].

Campbell is a member of the Left faction of the Federal Parliamentary Labor Party.
