Joaquin Morato

Joaquin Garcia-Morato Castano (1904–1939) was the leading Nationalist fighter ace of the Spanish Civil War. An accomplished prewar pilot, he served in Morocco, excelled in aerobatics, and instructed instrument flying. Between December 1936 and January 1939, he flew primarily the Italian Fiat CR.32, achieving 40 credited victories over Republican aircraft while leading his "Blue Patrol".

Shortly after the war, in April 1939, he was killed while performing aerobatics.
