JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH is one of the largest non-academic research institutes in Austria. Besides its headquarters in Graz it is also based in Weiz, Hartberg, Frohnleiten, Leoben, Niklasdorf and Vienna. 90 percent of the company are owned by the province of Styria, since 2004 10 percent are held by the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO).

The name JOANNEUM RESEARCH is derived from Archduke John (1782-1859), who was very interested in natural sciences. The slogan of the company is „A tradition of innovation“.
