Joan Maragall

Joan Maragall i Gorina (b. October 10, 1860 in Barcelona - d. December 20, 1911) was a Catalan poet.
Maragall's family was dedicated to industry, and when Maragall finished school he took on his father's job. But Maragall never liked to work, so he decided to go to university where he studied law. Unfortunately, he never finished. Instead he dropped out of school and married Clara Noble, with whom he had 13 children.
Maragall's poetry was based on life and nature. In 1904 he won three prizes from the Jocs Florals and was proclaimed Mestre en Gai Saber.
His grandson Pasqual Maragall would become mayor of Barcelona and subsequently President of Catalonia.
