Jo Leinen (born April 6, 1948 in Bisten) is a German Member of the European Parliament. He was elected on the SPD ticket and sits with the Party of European Socialists group. Before his political career he was a practicing lawyer.
He was Minister of the Environment in the State of Saarland (1985-1994) then a Member of the Landtag of Saarland until 1999. He has been President of the Union of European Federalists since 1997. Since 2004 he is member of the Advisory Council of the Committee for a Democratic UN.
On July 23, 2004 he was elected Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs.
