[edit] Neoliberalism

Hi! Is it timely to conduct a Peer review of Neoliberalism?

--Henri 15:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

I would say not yet. In my view: (1) The history section should be brought to up at least 1997. (2) The criticism section need streamlining. It is a big mess. (3) I would like to cite some studies commenting on the economic effects of neoliberalism. Once these are done, I think we'd be ready for peer review.

I just started a new job and had a baby daughter, so it is hard for me to work on this actively. I could get this done by the end of the semester alone, or sooner with help. --jncohen 16:58, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Willing to help, although this is not my specialism... Giovanni Arrighi wrote an interesting piece in the NLR (issues 32 and 33, March-April and May-June 2005), Hegemony unravelling, in part commenting on David Harvey's analysis (in New Imperialism) of the adoption of the New American century project by the GWB's administration and its significance for US policies. I was thinking of writing a piece on this: it links neoliberalism to the neocon variance and Arrighi's hegemonic crisis.
All the best with Baby daughter, by far your most important project right now!

--Henri 18:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I think it would be an excellent contribution to the article, because it will add historical context to neoliberalism and alert readers to historically analogous time periods. I am also a great fan of these sorts of history-of-the-long-run theories, which are often not well-detailed in Wikipedia. Maybe a distinct entry on systemic cycles of accumulation, or a serious improvement on the entry related to hegemonic stability theory might be a great contribution to Wikipedia as well? -jncohen 14:37, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

JN Cohen, thanks for the note. Why I'm gone, and I won't even look back in on Wikipedia until January, is because...you know what season it is. I'm on the job market, finishing copyedits on an article, writing a book due sooner than I'd like, sending off an article, teaching, I just had my one and only lovely-handfull baby boy last year, etc. ( I am going to read your "Neoliberalism and patterns of economic performance" article in the interim though. Looks good.) I'm sure you are keeping even a few more balls in the air right now yourself...Congratulations on the birth of your baby daughter! It's a big, terrific deal!
