Thanks for the speedy response. That was my first Wiki edit of any measurable significance so I'm still new to the formatting and whatnot. Perhaps another time I'll create a subsection for it, but it's not critical. I should probably register an account first!

Cheers.

Hey no problem, you're very welcome. Don't be discouraged; my revert wasn't meant to drive you away. It took me awhile to get the hang of things around here as well. My only advice is practice, practice, practice! And register an account; you can create new articles, keep track of your edits, have a much more organized talk page, and much more! Jmlk17 04:08, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

your curiosity

There are a few things which played into me joining Sigma Chi. For one my Uncle is a Sigma Chi. Although my dad was in Tau Kappa Epsilon I felt a stronger bond with sigma chi when I researched it. Another factor is that when I visited the University I attend I stayed at the Sigma Chi house and met many of the brothers before I even became a freshmen. When I rushed in college I didn't check out that many fraternities, but of the ones I saw they didn't seem to fit like Sigma Chi. Ever since my pledging I have read a lot on the history of Sigma Chi and it is very interesting. I hope to get some of it into the article eventually too. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hey, I'm not sure how to respond, since you have been blocked as a vandal. But the article really needs to be expanded for one, copyedited for another, and just overall re-organized. Jmlk17 21:45, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Earlier today, you reverted 34 edits made to this article by User:172.135.131.176, apparently without checking them. They were all very constructive edits, which I believe will help the article in its FA candidacy and represent hours of his/her hard work. The user now appears to have vowed to stop editing wikipedia, which I think is a great shame.

I understand that IP vandalism is a serious issue, but there are lots of very capable editors here, who for some reason do not have a user account. In future, please remember that vandalproof is a very powerful tool, and you must check that edits are actually vandalism before reverting them. Thanks - Alex valavanis 10:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry. Everyone makes mistakes - that's why we have a revert button! Hopefully, the user will understand and accept this too. It was good of you to apologise to him/her. :) - Alex valavanis 10:38, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not give up (lol)

Lol, I'm not going anywhere. ;0)

I just saw the nomination and thought I'd give it a go. I'm here forever however (to be editing). ;D LOL There's no "tragedy" in someone not receiving adminship. The reason why I want to become an admin is because I have become quite critic of the poor job done administrating wikipedia, because despite its very large number of admins it obviously keeps lacking them. E.g. I remember 3RR reports rotting to waste without responding (same with RFPPs) and that a lot of reports at the incidents are actually ignored.

Despite Wikipedia's huge number of admins, it's still proportionally unimaginably lower than the necessary quantity (obviously)... but if I don't become an admin (considering the current status of this RfA), I'll be glad for remaining at the *side* which does not have the overly burden on its back. :)))

Cheers, mate. --PaxEquilibrium 10:45, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey

Hey Jmlk17, thanks for your note and best wishes. I just got back from Zagreb and have a stinking cold but had a great time. I'm only back in the UK for a week before I have my summer holiday of in Cuba which I'm really looking forward to, if only for some sunshine! I'd like to apologise for my lack of suggestions in recent times, as you are probably aware, I'm only just getting used to the extra buttons following my own successful RFA so I've taken it easy and tried not to ruffle too many feathers. I've had a bit of a scan of your recent contributions, your incredible number of edits over the past few months are indicative of using tools such as VP. A recent, but welcome slant at RFA has been an emphasis on building the encylopaedia. To that end I'd like to recommend that you make a concerted effort to take an article to perhaps good article status, if not featured status. I've noticed you've made over a hundred edits to Pi Kappa Alpha so you're clearly interested in this. Can I suggest you have a look at giving it a peer review to allow others to say where they think the article can be improved (let me know if you start this, I'll happily contribute, although I know little about fraternities, often that would make me an ideal person to proof-read your article, keeping it NPOV, factual, well cited etc) and then make the appropriate changes, and pursue elevation to either GA or FA (the article is in a good state so GA shouldn't be too difficult, but some photos and more prose than lists would be a good thing). Anyway, have a think about that, or, if you have another article you'd be prepared to put the time into then let me know and we'll talk it over... All the best for now... Re: Wikibreak

Thanks for your support. I did take a Wikibreak from about February '06 or thereabouts until about October or so. I think I just kind of got burned out for a while after making several thousand edits! I also recall feeling tired of all the foolishness—vandalism and silliness—that some people contribute to the Wikipedia. But later I decided that I could still make good contributions not let the stupidity bother me. Actually I did come back in about July or so, contributing anonymously. You can find a record of those edits here. ●DanMSTalk 00:39, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I understand what you were trying to do. No worries. I'm not sure why the other person had a problem with it being 12 as far as length, 2 lines is not a big difference. V-train 05:43, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Signature

My signature was just something that I came up with practically at random. Quite a few people have something similar (although some other part of their name links to talk and contribs instead), just with different colors. I just tried a couple shades of red within the 216-color palette for the C and T, and used pure red for the rest. You could do something with the digits in your name, maybe. Just a thought. Comrade Tux 04:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

It might be a good idea to have one of the two links in a slightly different color, so it stands out a little. The default link text color is #002bb8, for reference. Maybe something like #000077 (versus normal)? Comrade Tux 05:11, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Hello thanks for your message. Don't worry i'm not ignoring you - very tired and frustrated, so I need to think up a good response, and I will tomorrow. Btw, I was seriously going to email you and ask if you wanted to be nominated... coincidence or what? :) Majorly (talk | meet) 02:07, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Canvassing was invented around October 2006 to prevent vote stacking on AfDs and such, which will change the consensus. However, people now associate it with RfAs. In the past, users would have banners on their userpage, a special userbox saying they were on RfA, link in the signature, asking users to come and support. And you know what, nobody gave a damn about. Because adminship is NO BIG DEAL. These are the kind of users that make RfA broken, coming up with silly reasoning "he told a friend, cannot possibly be trusted to delete a page". Heck, when I became an admin, I don't believe I'd ever read a policy page properly. And these opposers don't realise that not following a silly guideline doesn't make a bad admin. I totally agree with canvassing - does that make me so terrible? I look at RfA history a lot, and I see a lot of canvassing. These users go on to become some of the greatest users this site has ever had. Now all these users are preventing someone from doing what really is a dull horrible slave job, just because they advertised they wanted to do it. I say encourage it. The backlogs are still high, people still complain RfA is broken, and people still keep opposing for reasons nothing to do with being an admin.</rant> :) Majorly (talk | meet) 19:13, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Deletion

Can you explain, in your own words, why you think Brown's gas and HHO gas should be deleted? The HHO article still needs some work to be neutral and scientific (which the nominator keeps disrupting), but the Brown's gas article is pretty good at this point. Even if you think the current article isn't well written, that's not a good reason for deleting it. — Omegatron 14:12, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm quite confused here...not sure why I am being asked this question. Jmlk17 07:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

You asked me a couple questions on my talk page concerning HHO Gas] and Brown's Gas. I checked the edit histories of both, and have yet to find an instance in which I edited, nor even suggested deleting them. May I ask how I came into the conversation? Please reply on my talk page. Jmlk17 07:33, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Umm... because you were the first to vote in favor of deletion?
Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/HHO_gas_(4th_nomination)#HHO_gasOmegatron 23:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
If your vote was a mistake, please remove it. — Omegatron 00:12, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Re: AIV

Thanks for the notice put up on WP:AIV about a vandal. They have not as of yet been blocked, due to the fact that they seemed to have stopped editing for now. But keep up the good work, but remember to warn users, as they cannot simply be blocked usually. Jmlk17 04:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

A couple of questions, as this is my first time reporting a vandal for banning:
  • What behavior qualifies as active vandalism? This IP has vandalized the same article three times in the last week, most recently this evening. They may not be sitting at their computer waiting for it to be reverted, but they check this article often and delete the majority of it each time. I consider them active.
  • Is it kosher for ME to recommend a ban if the final warning was issued by SOMEONE ELSE? That is what happened in this case. Just wondering. - MatthewBurton 04:18, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Failed Sigma Chi Good Article Justification and Suggestions

1. Fair use rationale must be added to Image:Sigmachicrest.png, Image:Normanshield.jpg, Image:Order Constantine.jpg and Image:SigmachiFlag.jpg. The {{Non-free logo}} tag explicitly states...

This tag is meaningless without an accompanying fair use rationale which must be unique to the usage of THIS image in each article in which it is used. You must also give the source and copyright information for all fair-use images uploaded.

... see Image:Horizonslogo.jpg and Image:SigmaChiBadge.gif for examples.

2. The many typos need to be addressed... a couple example...

The founding of Sigma Chi began when came as the result of a disagreement...

He developes and implements...

He also cooridnates the publications...

As a general rule, each undergraguate chapter elects a female...

3. Founding section, under History does not have one reference. There are so many facts in this paragraph that need a reference I can't list them all. See WP:CITE for help.

4. Several {{fact}} tags need to be addressed.

5. Fair use rationale must be added to Image:Norman Shield.jpg. See {{bookcover}} tag for justification guidelines.

6. I recommend, but it's not required, to conform all your references to citation templates... makes it look much cleaner.

Your Assumption

Don't be too quick to assume that I am "impersonating" an admin. I had no idea that blocking was for admins only, though it does make sense. Like you said, I am new(er) here. Thanks for the heads-up though. However, I am very amazed that you jumped to the conclusion that I was "impersonating" an admin. There should be a way to block users if you are just a normal user though.... ---Signed By:KoЯnfan71 (User PageMy TalkContribs) 00:22, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Uhm...replied on your talk page. Jmlk17 00:23, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry. Ever since I started looking for vandalism, I have been being "yelled at" (more like corrected, but it feels like I'm being yelled at), and I had never been before that time. It almost makes one want to stop reverting vandalism and warning users. ---Signed By:KoЯnfan71 (User PageMy TalkContribs) 00:29, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Always great to have some encouraging words. I wondered how much controversy anti-vandalism people got caught up in. Great to know that many people get caught in it, which makes me want to go fight it more, though there is such a great volume that it will never stop. Oh well, always good to help out the cause. Thanks! ---Signed By:KoЯnfan71 (User PageMy TalkContribs) 00:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've been patrolling new pages casually. I thought that admins were no longer using the {{protectedpage}} template, now that cascading protection was enacted. (Wikipedia:Protected titles) Just curious as to what policy is on protected deleted pages these days. Happy editing!-RunningOnBrains 05:27, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Erm, [2]. I'd do it myself but I'm not yet mopworthy. --Butseriouslyfolks 05:38, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Got it taken care of. Jmlk17 05:55, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

eBay

Since you are the administrator who was following the vandalism to the eBay article, I feel that I should notify you that I reverted it once more: User_talk:69.137.185.37

Thanks! Rockerbaby 08:03, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the great anti-vandal work! Jmlk17 08:48, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism and adminness

No worries :) And yes, I am an admin, explaining my amateur revert today (I've gotten so used to rollback...) I just got myself desysopped temporarily to deal with exams. That way I can limit my activity here to about an hour a day, instead of 3-4 ;) Riana 09:35, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Nope, Aussie. June's a bad time of year for me... and it should be a good one, birthday month! Ah well :) Riana 09:38, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

May (Evans) Killeen, Leslie, Durward

Dear Jim,

Just a quick question - Are only the "Men" of Tombstone worth writting about? I had entered the obituary of May (Evans) Killeen, Leslie, Durward, and it was deleted. Leslie treated all the women in his life with abuse, yet we are not allowed to write about what happened to his wives "after" Leslie?

I would like to request the obituary be posted.

My RfA :) (creative heading title, huh?)

Thank you for commenting on my RfA, which closed successfully with a tally of 76/0/1! I hope I will meet your expectations, and be sure I will continue trying to be a good editor as well as a good administrator :) If I may be of any assistance to you in the future (or if you see me commit some grievous error :), please drop me a line on my Talk page.

Again, thank you, and happy editing! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:38, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Belated congratulations

Hey, just back "fresh" from Havana, had a great time, and I'm just about to fall asleep but I wanted to quickly say well done on your RFA, sorry to have missed it but you clearly didn't need my help after all! All the best for now, The Rambling Man 14:27, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

NHL 08 coverboy

I saw your question on Template talk:EA-NHL-series and figured I'd tell you who it's gonna be. According to communities.canada.com it's going to be Eric Staal. BsroiaadnTalk 03:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

BOT usernames

Per the policy on usernames, shown here, users with the name "bot" must be blocked indef., unless approved for a trial run at WP:BOT or granted by bureaucrat. Thus, your "bad AIV report" was invalid. Cheers! Miranda 08:07, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks :). I'm pretty new at the whole admin thing, and have been without internet (and still am) for a bit now, and am getting used to it. Thanks for that link; I appreciate it. I'd say "cheers", but I'm not very used to that as an American, so I'll just say thanks a bunch!  :) Jmlk17 08:17, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Also, while AIV is alright for reporting such things, usernames for admin intervention is now usually preferred. Thanks again! Jmlk17 08:18, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Might want to read this and this. Miranda 19:39, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I got those bookmarked as a matter of fact lol, but thank you :). Jmlk17 19:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

UAA

Thank you. Even when something is blindingly obvious, either here, at WP:CSD or at WP:AIV, I always feel that at least two people should agree before anything is removed.--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 09:07, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

A very good idea. Jmlk17 09:14, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
