[edit] Karate wikilinks
Normally there should be only one wikilink in the inline text those removed are repeats from elsewhere --Nate1481( t/c) 15:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your recent welcome, Jmcw37. I removed the Wikipedia citations from the Karate article because it is my understanding that Wikipedia articles should not be used as references. I appreciate the comment about the edit wars; hopefully that kind of behaviour will be minimised once the Karate article is thoroughly revised and appropriately documented with regard to sources. Thank you for your note about the Wikipedia guidelines for Japanese names (surname-first name for pre-Meiji, otherwise first name-surname). Janggeom 14:59, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Program for Evaluating Complementary Medicine
Good work on the PEK article. As David.Mestel said on the talk page 12 months ago, "it is bristling with POV". Extracting the POV into the "critic" section is a good move. (I wish I'd thought of doing that!)
One minor question: Why did you change the Level 3 headings to Level 2? Pdfpdf 07:56, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- A minor answer: I wanted to deemphasis the critic section - feel free to put back the old structure. By the way, the article is almost entirely extracts from the referenced document. The documentation (139404.pdf) is in German and French but with summary sections in English. I suspect that all of the English sections from the report are in the article.
- I have been in Switzerland through the time of the review. I was disappointed that the alternative medicines made so little effort to justify their basis. I suspect that a good show would have been accept. jmcw 09:21, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah, no hard feelings. It was about time someone created the article! So you're in Prague currently? My good friend Steffen Silvis is the arts editor of the Post. VanTucky (talk) 01:17, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kendo spam
Normally I would have left it on the kendo article, it but had already been removed and had also been added to others where the relevance was questionable, external link on kendo are not needed on Japanese martial arts or Sport in Japan where it was also added. --Nate1481( t/c) 11:30, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- From their contribs, all that users edits have been adding links to that domain so going 2 double check & report it. --Nate1481( t/c) 12:05, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] has the user Nate1481 caused you problems?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Nate1481 removed a legitimate link I posted. He appears to be doing this on a regular basis. Is this the problem you encountered with him?User5802 21:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- It is a matter of judgment. I tend towards inclusionism with the assumption that someone else might be inspired to add more. I think Nate tends towards exclusionism where prevention is better than cure. Additional, I have not known him to show excess flexibility<g>. Here in wikiland, one must learn to appreciate diversity. jmcw 09:28, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] PEK
Thanks. Well spotted. ("Creeping POV" is a very good description for it!)
And thanks for your good manners in taking the time to bring it to my attention and explain your rationale. Most appreciated.
I have taken a look - A "diff" between the Aug 27 version and the current version shows them to be identical; your "hacking" seems to have done the required job! Best Wishes, Pdfpdf 05:55, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tō'on-ryū
Hi John. Yeah, there's a problem here. As far as I can tell, 東恩流 should be pronounced とうおんりゅう, which (using revised Hepburn) transliterates to Tōonryū. Revised Hepburn provides no rules for the use of hyphens, they are to be used at the writer's discretion to improve clarity where needed (but used sparingly). In the WP:WPMA, we've decided that a hyphen should always precede "ryū", so that brings the transliteration to Tōon-ryū. However, revised Hepburn does provide for the use of an apostrophe, and in only a single application, which is when ん is followed by a vowel or "y". An apostrophe is not used to separate syllables (although a hyphen could be), so you're left with either Tōon-ryū, or Tō-on-ryū. I prefer the former. Hope that helps, Bradford44 12:19, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - I'll rename the article. jmcw 09:01, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Goodness gracious me! What a can of worms. I had no idea the topic was such a mine field. [edit] a thank you note
Thanks for participating in my RfA! | ||
Although it failed 43/27/0, I'm happy because the outcome has been very helpful in many meaningful ways. Your support and remarks contributed so much to this. If you followed my RfA you know what happened. Most of the editors who posted opposing opinions have never edited with me. Some articles I edit deal with controversial topics and with respect to a very few of these, editors who didn't know much about me had some worries about confrontational editing and civility. Since I support their high standards I can easily (and will gladly) address this. The support and ecouragement to run again soon has been wonderful, thanks again. Cheers! [edit] Chan Tai San
As it happens, I did NOT write the article in question. He just happens to be my (deceased) teacher and I feel the need to protect his article from what appears to be unwarranted "edits". IN FACT, the article in question was written by the OWNER of http://www.nykungfu.com Not sure what the WIKI policy is?? (really?), but one would assume the person who wrote the original article (and owns the rights to the work) has the ability to post it, no? Nysanda (talk) 00:58, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Ke?po
I can see your reasoning, but it would be harder for him to argue it if you use a more reliable source, have their been any articles on Parker or a mention of him in a ke?po article in say, Black belt magazine? --Nate1481(t/c) 09:40, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- If he's around at the moment it might be worth pointing him at WP:OWN and seeing his reaction, if he starts pontificating then it will likely end with admin intervention. I have added it to the martial arts project talk page to see if it will get more people interested as this is a general issue. --Nate1481(t/c) 12:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Kombu
Hi! Read your message. What I tried to write is you should put a strip of dried kombu in cold water, not in hot or boild water, then heat it and wait till it boils. That's the way to make dashi. I am a Japanese and my English is terrible, so please feel free to copy edit my post as you are an en-native editor. Best regards and happy editing. Oda Mari (talk) 16:11, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Welsh Rarebit
Hi, yes, if you look at the discussion page it is pretty well understood that simply putting cheese on bread and toasting it does not constitute a Welsh rarebit. That should go under a separate article for cheese on toast. Furthermore saying that this method is "in current popular use" is very confusing and misleading, especially referring to the use of the name in the US. It's a sauce, not a piece of cheese on bread.OwenSaunders (talk) 14:49, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi, it seens we've been cross-editing. I agree the sentence needed some tweaking and I just made another change to make it more clear. None of the recipes for Welsh rabbit I've seen have involved sticking it under a broiler as it is a sauce and is already melted.OwenSaunders (talk) 15:29, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi again, I've written an extensive new article for this which is currently located on my talk page. Would be interested in any feedback. OwenSaunders (talk) 02:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] MA Project notability
Thanks for the spelling fix, I was also wondering what you made of the text as I wrote or edited a lot of it and want to make sure it's not just my own views. --Nate1481(t/c) 10:43, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was sending a new user there as part of a welcome, so I though I should read it myself. As guidelines go, it is good. I think that we accept much lower than academic standards for references ( even History Channel<g>). A hierarchy of preferred sources ( books, magazines, web, television, intestines of a chicken ) would be good material for a project page too. Better a History Channel reference than none at all. jmcw (talk) 11:52, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Senso Ryū Aikijūjutsu
If you intended for Senso Ryū Aikijūjutsu to be speedy-deleted as blatant copyright infringement, please provide a URL with the speedy deletion tag. I Googled several passages from the article to see if I could turn up the infringement, and I was unsuccessful, so I declined the speedy. SchuminWeb (Talk) 11:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Your message
Thanks for the message - the speedy tag has been removed here, and I am inclined to agree with SchuminWeb that the url is probably a copy of Wikipedia (the formatting gives it away) rather than the other way around. Incidentally, I don't know if you're aware, but when using db-copyvio there's an additional parameter ("url=XXX") that you can use to show the url - if you have a look at the page when you placed the tag here, you'll see the url field of the db box is empty. If you'd typed in {{db-copyvio|url=http://sensoryuaikibudo.yuku.com/topic/577}} it would have shown the infringing url on the page, rather than having it hidden away in the edit summary. Just a thought! GBT/C 11:45, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Go on, try it...you might like it! I see from the talk page there's some argybargy about dates, etc. - I'll have a bit more of a look into it all. GBT/C 11:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Dates
I think that the date you are referring to re the copyvio by User:99.132.177.200 is not the article date - it's the join date of that editor. The article date is at the bottom of the page. I posted a message to that user re breach of GFDL at User talk:99.132.177.200 instead. It's a copyvio either way! -- David from Downunder (talk) 13:18, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
