[edit] Hebrews 13:4
The article you recently created, Hebrews 13:4, has been deleted because it consisted of only a King James translation of the New Testament verse in question. Encyclopedic articles on Bible related subjects are generally appropriate for Wikipedia, but all such articles must contain an analysis of the text based upon appropriate academic and theological sources. For more information on Bible articles, and to find other Wikipedians working on such articles, I would recommend you visit Wikipedia:WikiProject Bible. --Allen3 talk 17:17, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Confused
Hi Allen3! I guess I still do not understand why my quotation from Hebrews was deleted? Should I have added other versions like that from King James or the NIV? The quotation was taken from a New King James Version. Suggestions are welcome and always appreciated! :) Jess 17:22, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- While I can't possibly know what the person who nominated it for deletion was thinking but what I understand from his message above, Wikipedia is not a place for simply quoting books of any sort. If you want to write an article on a section of the Bible it should be more than just a quote. It should discuss the theology behind the chapter/verse, the literary importance, the possible interpretations, and so forth. A quote in itself is not necessarily encyclopedic. You may want to join the WikiProject he mentioned, and talk with people there who are likely much more knowledgable than I on the subject, and also have a look at how Epistle to the Hebrews is written for an idea of what I mean. -Dawson 17:33, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Dawson! I had thought that by making that scripture a page, that it would just be considered a "sub-page" where someone could simply refer to the verse that I mentioned on the Church of Christ page. Anyways, the discussion at hand has much more clarity now, thanks to your explanation. Jess 17:39, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Looking at your edit history, it appears that what you really wanted was a link to the verses in question. It is possible to obtain this by using the {{Bibleverse}} template without having to create an article for the verse in question. The problem with creating a Wikipedia article that consists only of a copy of the verse in question is that the King James translation is covered by Crown copyright in the UK, and other modern translations are copyrighted by the translating organization. To be able to make a fair use claim, thus allowing a quotation to be legally used, additional text must be added to the article in the form of analysis and commentary.
- I have updated the Church of Christ article (see here) to incorporate the bibleverse template. More information on the template is available at Template talk:Bibleverse. --Allen3 talk 17:44, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Allen3 for all of your kindness and patience with editing. I am not entirely familiar with the site considering that I am new to it. Jess 18:04, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] ICOC
I posted a question on the Talk:Church of Christ page regarding the Internatinal Church of Christ. See my question here--ICOC Could someone please give me some feedback? Jess 18:04, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- The question is places correctly, I'm sure someone with an interest in the article will take a look at the question soon.--Commander Keane 18:13, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
I felt that it is necessary to mention how discouraging it is to post a question concerning the section of Church of Christ on the wikipedia website, and having the moderators completely ignore my message and continue onward with another concern. For anyone who is willing to touch base on my concern go here under the post titled "ICOC". Thanks. jlb2043 14:57, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- You could try a Request for comment to ask for opinions from other editors (although that makes the matter a bit serious). Although traffic is low at the moment, the newly created Requests for feedback may be able to yield some opinions without making a big problem out of it. I'm afraid that's about all we can do to get a response to your comment. Hope this helps. -- Tangotango 15:01, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
