- (Reprinting my response to the question you asked on my talk page.) Hi, I'm happy to help you sort this out. The problem we have here is that Wikipedia needs more than just your say-so about the ownership of these types of images for them to be usable. In the case of music videos (and stills taken from them), the copyright is almost always owned by either the artist or (more likely) the record label. Are you the artist in this case, or someone representing the label who is qualified to release the images? If so then I believe (but don't quote me on this) you need to contact Wikipedia directly in writing, releasing the images under the appropriate free license, or into the Public Domain. If you're not either of these parties then it might be acceptable to tag one or two of the images with {{non-free music video screenshot}} and use those (tagging and using all eight would probably be considered excessive though). -- Hux 17:52, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

- (Reprinting my talk page response again.) Much better - I'll edit the deletion request pages to reflect the change; I imagine the community will have no problem with them now. I would still recommend that you delete most of the images and only use one or two of them though. The reason for this is that a Fair Use rationale only works when your use of the works is just enough to convey the point you're making. In this case one or two images is plenty to illustrate the existence of the music video and its general style. Eight images might be considered unreasonably excessive. However, that's just my opinion as an interested party who knows quite a bit about US copyright law. (By the way, I removed "Template:Jjc" from these images since that template doesn't exist. I hope you don't mind.)
- Also, on this image you should delete the summary text ("I designed the artwork...") - you don't need to (and shouldn't) have that text there if you're claiming Fair Use. -- Hux 05:55, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Rear End
I've nominated Rear End, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Rear End satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rear End and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Rear End during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Hux 07:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Issues with image deletion nominations
I have copied over the following text from your IP address talk page:
- Further to your comments on my talk page, first, you really should sign in using your user id of User:Jjcenterprises. This image, Image:Mercedes CD.jpg, while not up for deletion easily could be. This image is a cover to an artist's CD yet you released the image into the Public Domain - meaning anyone can use the image including for commerical use. I do not think you have the authority to release those rights. While you may have designed the cover art, it is likely owned by the record label or the artist and only they can release those rights. It would be very unusual to have that happen. More then likely you need to add the non-free license tag of {{album cover}} to the page. Finally you will need to add a fair use rationale to the image page. This rationale explains why Wikipedia can use the copyrighted image. Have a read through WP:FURAT for an explaination. In regards to the group of images such as Image:Tn Mercedes00021.jpg, they appear to be screenshots from a video. Again the video, an any screenshots from it, are likely owned by the record label or artist. You will need to place a non-free license such as {{non-free music video screenshot}} on the pages and add a fair use rationale. If you actually do own the images and underlying work, have a read through WP:COPYREQ about sending in proof of ownership and release under a free licnese. Once you have added the information to the image pages, please go to the discussion page for each image and comment about what you have done. Left without comment, the images will likely be deleted.--User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 12:21, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

- The licensing seems good, but you also need to add the fair use rationales. Have a look at WP:FURAT and User:ESkog/Rationales. To quote from the second source, "Note that most images require use in critical commentary. This term means that the image must, in some way, be a subject of part of the article. It is not sufficient for the image to just show something - such as a screenshot of an episode - but it must illustrate some concept or claim in the article in such a way that words would be insufficient." As such, I do not think the video screenshots are likely going to be successful as they appear to be simply decoration, especially when used in a gallery format. Also, please make sure you comment on the nominations on the IfD page. Finally, please be sure to sign your comments on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~).--User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 21:39, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

- What is IfD page?? I am not familiar with the Wiki term. Forgive me like I said, I am not very good at Wikipedia site (I am rookie)!! Jjcenterprises 21:43, 3 July 2007 (UTC) (Better?)

- No problem - IFD stands for Images and media for deletion. One of the sub-pages is where you deleted the nominations under your IP address. Here is a link to the specific subpage - Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2007 July 2 and the nominations are at the bottom of that page - that is where I had to re-add them after they were deleted. And yes, your signature is good. A final thing, generally you do not have to reply on both your talk page and the other users talk page when having a discussion. Generally choose one method and stick with it. Most people (myself included) reply on the talk page of the person who left the message on my talk page. Yes it does cause the conversation to be split over two pages and requires a bit more linking about the subject being talked about, but that orange/yellow bar at the top is very helpful to know that someone is communicating with you.--User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 21:54, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

- You should comment on the IfD page at each image nomination about the license retagging you have done and the fair use rationale you have added. Explain what the image adds to the article that words could not. Beside each image title, to the far right, is an edit link. Once you click on that add your comments below the nomination. And don't forget to sign.--User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 00:25, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

A belated welcome. Have a look at some of the links. You may also wish to set up a user page - a bit of info about you - have a look at WP:USER - Don't be afraid to "borrow" anyone else's design of their user page - The GFDL license is all about re-useablity. Also on the user info page, have a look at the navigation bar to the right, there are lots more things to read. I know it is a lot of reading, but have at least a glance through and it will help make your stay here that much better. --User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 00:28, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mercedes00001.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Mercedes00001.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Louisiana_School_for_the_Deaf_ws.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Louisiana_School_for_the_Deaf_ws.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 09:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
