Talk:Jintachi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Katana article says the katana came into existence in the 1400s.
- It did, during the Momoyama/Muromachi eras, via the uchi-gatana. Jintachi (using the description given here) is not referred to anywhere in about 75 books on Japanese swords that I own. I've only seen it used in ebay ads. Jintachi (no) koshirae is the style of mounting (not a blade) for a tachi that predates (and overlaps with) katana. It does NOT involve a reverse bend to the tsuka; that's anime and wall-hanger nonsense (strongly promoted by cheap wallhanger makers), similar to the reverse-katana a-historical nonsense. See A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF JAPANESE SWORD MOUNTS OF THE LATE MUROMACHI THROUGH EDO PERIODS I Iaido-L Vol. 7 #7, and A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF JAPANESE SWORD MOUNTS OF THE LATE MUROMACHI THROUGH EDO PERIODS II, Iaido-L Vol. 7 #8.
I'm going to do a rewrite. Thanks for pointing this out. — jesup 15:33, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
