Pinyin Romanization needs to have tone marks added because they represent a fundamental part of the pronunciation of the words (the whole purpose of Romanization, after all); nowhere is this MORE VITAL than when you have Chinese words which are identical except for their tones, such as the two main Jin dynasties and the two 'later' versions. Even if you are opposed to the 'clutter' of tone marks, please do not remove them in cases such as this where the marks are actually an important part of the disambiguation. (If a student of Chinese history hears 'jin1' (1st tone) and goes to search for this dynasty on Wiki, that tone is the ONLY thing which helps him or her select between the two main Jin dynasties listed.)Dragonbones (talk) 04:33, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
