[edit] Re First Choice (pay-tv)

Thanks for your contributions in this article. I'd just like to point out that on Wikipedia, normally we treat TV channels that have used different brand names as a single channel (and discuss them in a single article). See, for instance, TVtropolis and MTV Canada, which were both rebranded / reprogrammed recently. I don't have time at the moment but I will probably be merging in the content into The Movie Network in the near future - alternatively, you can do so yourself if you wish. Any questions about this, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again! — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 23:47, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Also, the content you've posted above might go better on your user page. Click the red "user page" link above to see what I mean. The page you're on now is your talk page and is intended for discussion with other contributors. — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 23:50, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

OK, no problem. I merged it tonight. Feel free to edit it further. What do I do with the First Choice (pay-tv) artice now? --Jimj wpg 03:04, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Taken care of it - I've changed it to a redirect. — stickguy (:^›)— home - talk - 18:24, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Superchannel-paytv.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Superchannel-paytv.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:12, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] C Channel

The first paragraph in the C Channel article, under the Hours section indicated the broadcast week was divided 40% + 40% + 30% which adds to up 110% - could those numbers be rechecked? Meanwhile, thanks for the major content contributions to the C Channel article. Dl2000 14:17, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Manitoba Telecom Services

I see you imported text from winnipedia. Unfortunately, winnipedia doesn't list its content distribution license. (Wikipedia expressly uses the GNU Free Documentation License. If you can't get permission to reproduce from winnipedia, your edits will need to be reverted (i.e., copyvio).

In addition, there are a number of broken image links. If you upload these to Wikipedia, you'll need to get permission or show a permissive license. -- Robocoder (talk | contribs) 19:19, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

    • Excuse me, but I wrote most of the text about Manitoba Telecom Services on the Winnipedia site. The Winnipedia site, administered by Alex Reid was just started in February 2006. He has still to add some elements to the site, such as image use copyright tags, etc... I hereby release all text written by myself from Winnipedia re: Manitoba Telecom Services to Wikipedia. There I said it. -- Jimj wpg 20:05, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I'm going to cleanup the article as there's now some duplication and style inconsistency. I'll comment out the image tags until you can resolve them. -- Robocoder (talk | contribs) 22:42, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CHMI history

Although at some point in time that Videon had MTN on channel 8, and GWC/Shaw had MTN on channel 13 before 1995, I am almost certain that prior to 1995 this was not always the case. I do not know too much information as to the placements of MTN on Videon or GWC in its early years, and if you can clear that up, that would be appreciated. Thanks. --PsychoJason 23:23, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Northpine.com

I will be considering contributing to their website in the future, but since you have an archive of old videos as well, maybe you can contribute some TV screengrabs to Northpine.com. I would recommend using VLC Media Player, as that program allows you to take snapshots. Just suggesting... --PsychoJason 23:25, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Naplps1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Naplps1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image:Pamelawallin-canadaam.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Pamelawallin-canadaam.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 03:59, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cablecasting Limited

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Cablecasting Limited, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] Categories

Hi...just wanted to let you know, when you write up a personality such as Garth Dawley or John Warren, could you please type the category links as [[Category:Canadian Broadcasting Corporation personalities|Last Name, First Name]] rather than just [[Category:Canadian Broadcasting Corporation personalities]]? The category page doesn't alphabetize the articles correctly unless we do this. Thanks. Bearcat 06:58, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

    • Thanks for letting me know how to fix the category listing for these two people. I was wondering how to do it, and noticed they weren't sorted in the correct order. -- Jimj wpg 07:01, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cbwft1964-logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cbwft1964-logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. [edit] AfD nomination of Maurice Burchell

An editor has nominated Maurice Burchell, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maurice Burchell and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Cbwft1977-logo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Cbwft1977-logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Cbcmanitoba-1981.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Cbcmanitoba-1981.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:25, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 16:25, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Astra-Tel Communications Corp.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Astra-Tel Communications Corp., by Cquan (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Astra-Tel Communications Corp. seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Astra-Tel Communications Corp., please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 01:56, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Winnipegsun-logo1.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Winnipegsun-logo1.gif. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Shopping Malls

Hi Jim, I am trying to get references for Cityplace being the first mall built in the downtown. Do you have for that? I am trying to sources more of the Winnipeg article as well so any references are great so that I can create footnotes. jdobbin 20:34, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] History of bus routes

Hi, I read that you have a website about the history of Winnipeg Transit.

I am in the process of writing a Wikipedia page on the history of Winnipeg bus routes. The page is titled List of Winnipeg bus routes, and the goal is to write about, in numerical order, the rudimentary information of each bus line, and its history, from its streetcar roots. In writing this page, I am planning to follow the model of other similar pages I have found in the Wikiproject buses on the routes of other cities.

If you can be of any help, please let me know. If you can contribute to the page, that would be great. If not, but you can at least let me know the web address, that still would help. I have only been riding Winnipeg transit for less than a year now, and I only know what the routes are presently. But I am curious about their past. OGLY 18:23, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

The website address of my transit resource page is at: http://uwto.org/ I know of only one book John E Baker's book on Winnipeg streetcars that lists and discusses the various Winnipeg Transit routes over the decades. Also I have some printed material about some of the routes introduced in the 1980s (like the 57 Southdale Express and 58 Dakota Express) --Jimj wpg 01:29, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks fot the info. Currently, I have been busy constructing the page List of Winnipeg bus routes. It is a long, tedious project that I am doing little by little. To date, I have gotten up to route #25. I you can help by working on it too, that would be great. Also, if you have any photos of any buses that you have taken that clearly display their route numbers, I would appreciate that too. I cannot be where all the different buses run, so I need help from others on this. I have included a column marked "photo, if available." OGLY 14:45, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:CBWT1961-logo.gif

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:CBWT1961-logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cbcmanitoba-1981.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Thanks for uploading Image:Cbwt1954-logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:02, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Zenith-electra.jpg

I have tagged Image:Zenith-electra.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Rettetast 21:49, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:MortCrim casual.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:MortCrim casual.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. [edit] Barry Burns (broadcaster)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Barry Burns (broadcaster), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? BlueValour (talk) 21:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Ckuw-logo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Ckuw-logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --00:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
