[edit] Grays Athletic F.C. squad

Hey. To edit the current squad template, you need to enter Template:Grays Athletic F.C. squad on the search. This isn't linked to the squad on the Grays Athletic page; it needs to be updated seperately. Hope this helps, Mattythewhite 16:14, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Noticed you are making articles for Grays players. This discussion outlines things you should consider when creating an article for a non-league player. Is he notable enough to merit an article? There is a reason why many of the names on the Grays template are in black not red. slυмgυм [ ←→ ] 23:26, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Basically if a player has played a football league game, then they can have a page. Some of the ones you're creating do not meet this criterion so will likely be deleted. WikiGull 06:41, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Reply - Bodkin played twice as a sub for Gillingham so is fine. I'm a Torquay fan, so am facing this problem myself for the first time. WikiGull 13:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Knowles, Kedwell, O'Connor

Hey. They fail notability as they have never made an appearence in a professional league; they've only ever appeared in the Conference National, which isn't fully professional. For them to have an article they'd have had to have played in the Football League, for example. Hope that clears that up. Mattythewhite 15:05, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

More or less. Take a look here. Mattythewhite 15:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
You forgot to make the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Onome Sodje page, so someone else made it. They didn't see anything wrong with it, so speedy kept it. Mattythewhite 11:15, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] England National Game XI

Hi, I noticed you're adding that category to some players. I was wandering if you had a resource of some kind for players who have played for the team? Thanks. Mattythewhite 11:58, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your username

Hi, as you may be aware Wikipedia's founder is called Jimmy Wales and is commonly known as Jimbo (i.e. User:Jimbo Wales). Given that Jimbo has a certain authority on the project, other people using that name can cause confusion. Whilst it might be a bit much for him to have an absolute monopoly over the name, your username does rather sound like it could be an alternative account of Jimbo Wales. I don't think this a clear violation of our username policy by any means, but I would encourage you to request that your account be renamed to something more obviously distinguishable. Renames are pretty simple and you would keep all your existing contributions in your edit history. If you are willing to request a new name, please make a request at Wikipedia:Changing username. WjBscribe 22:31, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

You may wish to add a disclosure on your user or talk page, just that you are not that Jimbo. Bearian (talk) 17:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Never mind, then. :-) Bearian (talk) 18:35, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ben Watson

I've sorted it out a bit. But the Grays one fails notability. Mattythewhite 16:39, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Aah, I don't know about the futsal caps. Perhaps it should be discussed on WP:FOOTBALL? Mattythewhite 16:50, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Christian Hanson Grays Athletic 2006.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Christian Hanson 2006.jpg. The copy called Image:Christian Hanson 2006.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 22:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Aaron O'Connor

Well researched with getting Aaron O'Connor's notability - but I thought I'd let you know one of the soccerbase links don't work. Mattythewhite 12:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

This is about Aaron O'Connor when I looked at the page history it said you created it but I have wrote that I created. I prusume that I made a mistake so I will change it but if thay is some reason why I think I created it could you let me know?mattypc 15:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

The page history says that the article Aaron O'Connor was created by you. But I have a page that lists all the pages I have created andit says I created it. I wrote it so I must have thought I created it. I would just like to know whats going on. mattypc 19:26, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Look a bit closer before reverting

Hi there, I noticed you have been watching Jonny Evans. A little bit of advice, in the future could you double-check before reverting. You re-added the unhelpful vandalism with one of your reverts. Given the profile of the case, it doesn't harm to double-check. Thanks for looking out for the article. Woody (talk) 14:50, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

After just a few minutes' browsing; one could continue for ages and find loads of examples. All of these loans are set to end in 2008, but it's understood that a dash in the club list represents a current spell; a closed number represents an ended spell. What's more, loans can be extended, can be made permament, so while the end date is currently 2008, things can change. ArtVandelay13 (talk) 20:55, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thurrock FC

Hi Jimbo. I see you have been updating the Thurrock FC squad list from information on the official website. Unfortunately this isn't very up-to-date with regards to players who have left. I am a Thurrock FC season ticket holder and am trying to keep it as current as possible. I am also new to Wikipedia and still finding my feet. Winston Smiff (talk) 13:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mohamed Kanu (Caribbean Selects)

I just would like to say that the Mohamed Kanu who has played for Caribbean Selects, is not the same person as Mohamed Kanu who has been playing in Belgium for a whole while and who has his own article here on Wikipedia. Greetz! Karma-AH (talk) 10:39, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Andy Gurney

He no longer plays for H&W, but instead for Weston-super-Mare. Therefore, I have removed your H&W template (which didn't work on his page anyways) and have replaced the Weston template. Please see http://www.westonsupermareafc.co.uk/firstteam.asp as he is player #27.

[edit] Andy Gurney Pt. II

It will be updated in the next few days. Recently I have been doing a lot of work on Weston-super-Mare A.F.C. and getting the player pages in order is high on my list.

[edit] Cesc Fabregas

Why do you keep putting him in the box to box midfielder catagory? he is in now way a box to box midfielder, he has very few defencive duties, and despite having a good engine, he hardly has the defencive responcibilties of Viera or Keane.

No I don't, sign your comments next time. Jimbo[online] 23:58, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Im not sure how to sign my comments, im pretty new, im Ravhin and twice after I put Fabregas into attacking midfielder from box to box you have changed it. (I'll try and sign it, however it may not work. User:Ravhin —Preceding comment was added at 00:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ashley Barnes

Hey I noticed you re-created this article a few times today. It was deleted following an WP:AFD and hence it falls under the speedy deletion criteria G4 - recreation of previously deleted material. It doesn't appear that his notability has improved to merit an article under WP:FOOTBALL's criteria unless I'm missing something - can you clarify the situation please or I will delete the article again. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:30, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Okay, you'll need to add that to the talk page to stop other people deleting the article. And you should explain who he played for and against whom so people can judge it against the criteria for themselves. All the best The Rambling Man (talk) 17:45, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Cool, I added a suitable heading and the WP:FOOTY template there so all we need is the evidence...! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:52, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
What I was really expecting was the notability criterion to be described and then how it's met, both on the talk page. That way it shouldn't be deleted under G4 again. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm sure it may be clear to you but please add some substantiation on the talk page to prevent people who aren't 100% familiar with WP:FOOTBALL's latest notability criteria. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I've starting discussing this at WP:FOOTBALL - not sure FA Trophy counts. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:52, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

After reading this discussion, and chasing it through WT:FOOTBALL, AfD and two talk pages, I have deleted this article once again. A unanimous AfD is a hard act to follow - you need to provide very clear, reliable and verifiable evidence that the subject is unquestionably notable - the reference you provided is not a reliable source, and one is not sufficient against an AfD. If you think you can assemble multiple reliable secondary sources, as required by WP:N, then please start a deletion review thread and present them as a justification for recreating the article. Evidence from the WT:FOOTBALL discussion will also be helpful if it decides in favour of the article. Please do not simply recreate the article - if it is unilaterally recreated in the face of four WP:CSD#G4 deletions, it is likely to be protected from creation. Happymelon 21:20, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

If you read Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources, you will find all the answers you require. In general, newspapers and print media, reputable news agencies such as the BBC or CNN, and some online sources, are considered reliable. A good general rule-of-thumb is that if the word "unofficial" appears on a webpage, it is not a reliable source, although of course this is not a hard and fast rule. You will be best off attempting to gather references from several printed sources as they are more commonly considered reliable. Please also try to remain civil - swearing is rarely necessary and never productive. Happymelon 22:07, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Both would be acceptable as evidence for factual details - that is, they both reliably confirm that Ashlea Barnes plays for Grays Athletic. However, the fact that these sources cover that information is not notable - they do that for every soccer player in the business. If you find a BBC article about his transfer/signing to Grays, that indicates that the BBC considers him interesting enough to write about, and hence is evidence for notability. Essentially you're looking for reliable sources which have made a conscious decision that he is notable enough for them to write about: if he's good enough for them, he's good enough for us. Happymelon 22:50, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of David Button

I have nominated David Button, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Button. Thank you for your time. robwingfield «TC» 22:01, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sky Sports Prizefighter

Hope you enjoyed the tournament as much as I did, I see you were pretty quick to make edits! It's important to bulk up the pages of lesser known boxers, as well as creating pages. It's a good idea to have pages up to date so that users can get a correct impression of the fighter before a fight. I hope you'll keep up the good work! Don't forget to watch Bernard Dunne's comeback fight tomorrow..!--19daedalus88 (talk) 23:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Bernard Dunne is fighting former world champion Felix Machado in Mayo, Ireland tonight. It's on Irish TV here tonight but I'm not sure if you have access to that. But I'm sure Gomez vs Cotto should be fairly entertaining anyway. I'm hoping for Dunne to win well tonight. It's been disappointing for Irish pros with Dunne and Andy Lee losing their last fights, and John Duddy only scraping through his last fight against Smichet.--19daedalus88 (talk) 16:39, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Well done guys. Do you think I should to an article about the "Prizefighter" itself? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruairí Óg's (talkcontribs) 18:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] YCFC players

Hello! Hope you're alright. Just wondering if you could explain why those players should be deleted? I don't really understand why they're such a problem given that half the York squad members already qualify on the basis that they once played a few games in a division that's only one higher and which is run to similar professional/national standards. Seems a bit odd to me! Also, shouldn't the notability criteria be reconciled before we jump around deleting? It just seems a real shame to start obliterating functional articles that don't do any harm and are as notable as others than are allowed to stay! Cheers... Me677 (talk) 14:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Ta for that. As you say, Brodie (plus previously deleted Woolford/Purkiss/Sodje) are fairly notable players - well, far more so than those listed for deletion. It's just the petty bureaucracy and the absence of logic/reason on here that does my head in - are those who set the stringent criteria the same people who secretly desire to be referees? Hello, I am Truco, I will review your nomination of Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson, in turn you will review one of the nominations in the top 10 of the Sports and recreation section, as they mostly consist of professional wrestling articles, and I am a member of that project, and I cannot review them. [edit] contract expiry

As I understand it, if Barry Cogan, for example, finds a team to take him on for next season, he will join them from 1st July. Until 30th June, players remain contracted to the clubs they are at, and so it is proper to still connect him to the club who are paying him and responsible for him in the eyes of the Football Association. Clubs use the word "released", but AFAIAA, it has no meaning in terms of contract or registration. Kevin McE (talk) 19:06, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cruzeiro Esporte Clube roster

Hi. You deleted two articles created by me about two Cruzeiro EC players, Rafael Pires Monteiro and Fernando Camilo Farias. You said both players have never played in a fully-professional league. I believe both exclusions were incorrect.

About Rafael: If you follow soccer, you know every professional squad needs at least three goalkeepers in their roster. Not rarely, the third-choice keeper is a youngster. Rafael was promoted in early 2008 and never played for the professional team, but was registered to play in Copa Libertadores (America's equivalent to the UEFA Champion's League) and was already in the bench for some games. He clearly is a part of Cruzeiro's roster - as can be seen in the team's official home page - and I don't see why he can't have an article.

About Camilo: I don't even need to elaborate on this, the deletion was just plain wrong. It was clear in the stub that he played for Marília in the 2008 Campeonato Paulista de Futebol, which is a professional soccer league - actually, the most important state league in Brazil. He never played for Cruzeiro because he was signed this week.

Considering this, I'd like to see the content I added yesterday put back. I also would like to see better criteria being used when to choose what's gonna be deleted or not. If you don't know about the subject you're reading about, ask somebody who does.

Regards,

Moisescoelho (talk) 13:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok. Whatever. This kind of intransigent behavior and use of dumb criteria over common sense brings absolutely no benefits to the whole project, but I won't redo the articles. Camilo was one of the best players in the 2008 Campeonato Paulista, and Rafael was (Cruzeiro was knocked down) one of the 25 players registered to play for the team in the most important South American soccer competition, but they aren't professionals. You're probably correct.

I once read a joke about Wikipedia that goes like, "Example of a Wiki article: 'Water is liquid (citation needed')". Good one, huh?

Cheers,

Moisescoelho (talk) 15:08, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Samuel Peter vs. Vitali Klitschko is set! (sort of)

According to this and this, a deal has been reached and Peter will defend the WBC title agaist Vitali Klitschko before October 11th. However, the site for the fight hasn't been finalized. Hopefully, Big Brother Klitschko does'nt pull out due to injuries.--Jedi Kasra (talk) 20:44, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

  • O.K., will the fight be broadcasted in the U.S.? If so, what channel? I personaly hope that Peter wins over Vitali, so he'll be able to fight Vladimir. Not saying that Vlad still couldn't become undisputed champion of the world. If Vitali should win, Vlad could still beat Chagaev for the WBA title and be "undisputed". It's just that Sam Peter is the number two guy in the division. And in my opinion, Chagaev is a bum who is not worthy of having the same title as Holyfield, Foreman, Tyson, Ali, and all the greats, and he's a coward. Now I'm sure he's a good man, but I don't like him as a fighter. On the same site that had the Peter-Klitschko news, it has a report that as soon as Pavlik beats Lockett, Calzaghe's manager will begin negotiations for a potential matchup.--Jedi Kasra (talk) 22:02, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Oh, I'm a fan of Peter's. I mean, he did knock down Vlad three times! And Chagaev beating Valuev proves nothing, because Valuev fought nobodies, as well. I agreewith you about Pavlik and Jones, plus he need to fight Antonio Tarver. Gotta go, we'll talk boxing later.--Jedi Kasra (talk) 22:26, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gary Breen

Hi. Noticed you'd changed the format of the years in Gary Breen's infobox, from separated by <br /> to separated by <br>, without the breaking space. Please in future would you leave the <br />'s in place, as specified in the documentation for Template:Infobox Football biography. The reason being, if there is a long list of years without any breaking spaces, they go out past the right edge of the edit box and make it difficult for later editors to work on what's there. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 21:17, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cesc Fabregas, Michael Ballack and Daniele De Rossi

Theres really no arguement about Cesc, his defencive work is non-existant and he plays a good 50% further up the pitch than Pirlo or Carrick (archetypal deep-lying play makers). Michael Ballack was never a box to box midfielder, and putting him in that catagory is misleading. In his early years he was a very good attacking midfielder (like Lampard but better in the air and can actually pass), but he was never ever box to box. Daniele De Rossi is a much more all round player than people give him credit for, just simply putting him in a box with Gattuso, the start of his profile on wikipedia says as much (strong tackle, eye for goal), if he's worthy of a mention it really must be in BOx-to-box and not defencive midfielder... Thanks for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ravhin (talkcontribs) 14:38, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
