[edit] Sephardic Name

I'm glad somebody added Jimenez being a Jewish name. I have a friend who's last name is Jimenez, and she is Jewish. I just wish I could find the page as a reference, I wouldn't want anyone to erase it.Cariis1989 23:45, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

A good reference is the Crypto-Jews site, which details some of the name's Sephardic associations. Note, as is the case with many Azkhenazi names in Germany, for example Oppermann, not all people whose family name is Jiménez are necessarily of Jewish ancestry. It merely means that the name was used by the Sepharadim, too. Such is the case with notable Sephardic surnames like de Carvalho, Oliveira, Lima, Peres/Perez.jaximenes 00:18, 19 June 2007 (EDT)

Of course not everyone named Jimenez is Jewish, but some do have Sephardic roots without even knowing. This is my surname, and I am Jewish. I've been to many sites and they state Jimenez as being a Jewish name. Here are some if you want to check them out... Genealogy.com,Sephardim.com, Tzemach Institute,Sephardic Surname List. P.S. I've posted a source to prove that this is a Jewish surname. It's not the original, but a good site.71.214.12.37 04:52, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
