Jimmy Smith (fighter)

Jimmy Smith (born September 2, 1977) is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He currently co-hosts the show Fight Quest on the Discovery Channel.[1]. He was primarily trained in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. [2]
Smith, 5'10" and 175 pounds, earned a jiu-jitsu purple belt and holds various jiu-jitsu titles, including the Joe Moreira Tournament Lightweight Champion, Copa Pacifica Welterweight Champion, the Cleber Luciano Tournament Welterweight Champion and the Paragon Tournament Champion. Smith also placed third in the Southern California Submission Pro-Am and the 2003 Gracie Open. He fought in his first pro fight with Team Punishment of Huntington Beach, California, in 2001.
Smith grew up outside of Fresno, California. Smith’s grandfather was a boxer in the U.S. Army. Smith began his fighting career in high school, on the wrestling team. He studied history at UCLA, where he participated in the jiu-jitsu club. After graduating in 2000 he was a seventh-grade mathematics teacher.
On December 17, 2007, Smith appeared on the Carson Daly show with Fight Quest co-host Doug Anderson.
He is married.
