Jimi Shields (Born in New York) is best known for his work with '90s groups Rollerskate Skinny and Lotus Crown. He is currently an Architect/Garden Designer and partner of thirtythreetrees, LTD in Dublin, Ireland. He also plays in The Wounded Knees with former Mercury Rev flautist Suzanne Thorpe.
Shields is one of five siblings born to a mother who worked as a nurse and a food-industry executive father. The family had immigrated to Dublin when he was a child. He is the brother of My Bloody Valentine leader Kevin Shields, and noted shoe designer Eileen Shields. Their sister, Anne Marie, has worked extensively in the music industry and had managed the tours of My Bloody Valentine and Rollerskate Skinny.
Shields joined Rollerskate Skinny in the early '90s as their drummer/guitarist/vocalist. He played on their 1993 Shoulder Voices LP, as well as the on their Novice (1992), Trophy (1993), and Threshold (1994) EPs. Shields had left the group in 1994 and had moved from Dublin to Chicago. While in Chicago, he had formed Lotus Crown, and had released Chokin' on the Jokes on Reprise Records in 1997.
Shields had later went on to work with J Mascis and Martina Topley-Bird, and he had recorded some session with brother Kevin for My Bloody Valentine that have yet to be released.
