Jim Yong Kim

Dr. Jim Yong Kim is an American physician. He is a Professor of Medicine and Social Medicine and Chair of the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Chief of the Division of Social Medicine and Health Inequalities at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Director of the Francois Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights and a former director of the World Health Organization HIV/AIDS department.[1] He co-founded the nonprofit medical organization Partners in Health together with Dr. Paul Farmer. In 2003 he received a MacArthur Foundation "genius" grant,[2] and in 2006 he was listed as one of the top 100 most influential people by Time Magazine.[3] Dr. Kim earned an MD in 1991 and a PhD in 1993 from Harvard University, and earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University.

Dr. Kim is married to Younsook Lim, a pediatrician at Children's Hospital Boston, and has a son, Thomas, who was born in 2000.

He graduated from Muscatine High School.
