James J. Schmitt (born June 7, 1958, Two Rivers, Wisconsin) is an American Republican politician, He is a graduate of Roncalli High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

On April 1, 2003 he was elected as the 41st mayor of Green Bay, Wisconsin [1], succeeding Paul Jadin who had not sought re-election.

He is a member of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition.[1]

The fourth of ten children born to James Schmitt and Mary Gleichner Schmitt in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Jim Schmitt married Dona Degenhardt on May 26, 1990. They have three daughters: Anna, Greta, and Laura; another daughter, Eva, died as an infant in 2002. hg
