James "Jim" Robinson was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Alan Dale. He appeared from the very first episode in 1985 until the character's death in 1993.
[edit] Character bios.
In the show's storylines, Jim had a series of brief relationships with Anna Rossi, Zoe Davis and Ruth Wilson.
As time went on Jim's children flew the coop. Julie went on to marry Philip Martin and move to the country, Paul moved two doors up when he became the manager of Lassister's, Scott had moved next door with his wife Charlene, and Lucy later went to boarding School.
Number 26 Ramsay Street became full again when Jim married Dr. Beverly Marshall on Valentine's Day 1988, and her nephew and niece, Todd and Katie Landers, moved in with them when their parents, Bob and Annette, had marital problems. Teenage artist Nick Page also moved in with them after his grandmother became ill and later died.
Jim and Beverley's Marriage only lasted a few years. Beverley subsequently moved back to Perth. Todd stayed on with Jim while Katie had gone back home to Adelaide the previous year and Nick had moved to London.
Jim received the shock of his life when long-lost son, Glen Donnelly showed up on his doorstep in 1990. It took time, but a bond was formed between the two.
Paul initially grew jealous of Jim's closeness with Glen. This didn't last when Glen threatened to sue Paul after falling from the roof of Lassiter's while working on Christmas Day 1991. Glen left Erinsborough several months after settling out of court with Paul.
Jim was devastated in 1992 when Todd died of a cardiac arrest in hospital after being hit by an oncoming van while crossing a busy road. Todd had been rushing to prevent his girlfriend Phoebe from aborting their baby. Jim delivered a heartfelt, emotional eulogy at Todd's funeral.
Jim himself died a year later when he had a heart attack and collapsed on the kitchen floor of his home. Instead of phoning for an ambulance, his then partner, Fiona Hartman, went to the bank to withdraw Jim's money. Pretending to be unaware of Jim's plight she later put on an act when Julie and Rosemary discovered his body.
In his will Jim left Helen a life tenancy on Number 26, with the stipulation that on her death the house would go to Paul, Lucy, Scott and Glen who would each inherit a quarter of the house. Julie was left Jim's share in Carpenter's cars which he had bought into with neighbour Lou Carpenter.
Jim was the second character to have his demise marked with the tribute credits that had been used for Todd the year previous.
