Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy is named in honor of Jim Mahon (February 1952, in Maidstone, Ontario – 1971). He was a very gifted athlete even as a young child. He played minor league ice hockey in Essex, Ontario. When he left Essex at 15 years of age, his first stop was Parry Sound where he played Junior C. The next year he made the Peterborough Petes; as a rookie in 46 games his totals were 28 goals, 20 assists for 48 points. The following year he improved, and in 62 games his totals were 45 goals 44 assists for 89 points. With one season to go before his draft year, his career was cut short. In the summer of 1971 he died from an electrical accident. Because of his gifted scoring ability the Ontario Hockey League decided to present to the highest scoring right winger a trophy in his honor.
