Jim Hawthorne

Jim Hawthorne (1918-2007), often billed as "Hawthorne", was a radio disc jockey and comic actor who was a pioneer of "free form" radio.

Hawthorne was born in Colorado and began his career at a Denver, Colorado radio station. He eventually landed in Los Angeles where he worked not only in radio, but also in early television and and short films. He also issued his own records such as "Turn Your Head, Sweetheart." He was a very popular radio disc jockey who played hilarious music in the Los Angeles area. He moved to Hawaii in the late 1960s and developed a popular children's show there.

Hawthorne continued to entertain in semiretirement and died in 2007. Currently, another Jim Hawthorne is the play-by-play man and radio director for the LSU Tigers Sports Radio Network
