Jim Ellison was born James Walter Ellison on April 18, 1964. He was the frontman for the band Material Issue. He wrote all of Material Issue's songs mainly writing songs about heartbreak with girls' first names in the titles. He tirelessly promoted his band, booked tours, and created the buzz that would land Material Issue a major-label deal in 1990. Ellison - along with bassist Ted Ansani and drummer Mike Zelenko -would lead the renaissance of powerpop in the early 1990s. He committed suicide on June 20, 1996, via carbon monoxide poisoning.
