Variant spellings of Bhutanese names are always a problem, but in the case of the King I think we can safely standardise on Wangchuck (over Wangchuk) as the former is the spelling used by Kuensel, the national newspaper, and also by http://www.bhutan.gov.bt, the website of the Bhutanese government. technopilgrim 21:01, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

I've deleted the proposed romanization of his name because it has no source for the system of romanization, and also because I question if it is helpful to anyone. Romanization is usually done when an alphabet needs a system of rendering into the latin alphabet, but given the Bhutanese use English extensively, so why introduce an alternative spelling system on top of the Bhutanese direct system?

However, if someone is motivated to include the Dzongka spelling of the name in Tibetan unicode, that would be much appreciated. technopilgrim 00:36, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wives/sisters

The King has four wives (all sisters) - does this really mean that the King is married to his sisters, or is it an honorary title or form of address? This isn't very clearly explained. I admit I don't know much about Bhutan and would like this to be explained. Walton monarchist89 15:11, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I think it means that the wives are all each others sisters, but not biologically related to him. --Braindigitalis 23:17, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism section needs work

We do need a section on the Nepali refugee issue on the king's page, as it is the main criticism leveled against him. But the present version discredits the encyclopedia by relying on unsourced assertions of "ethnic cleansing", etc., and equally unreferenced speculations as to the "true" motivations behind Time Magazine's inclusion on their list of 100 leaders. I've tried to tone it down a bit, but it needs a lot more work. -- technopilgrim 21:49, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] coat of arms

There is a nice image of the coat of arms on his son's article and other articles relating to Politics of Bhutan. It is possible to add this image without using the Politics of Bhutan template. I am not familiar with this topic, so, perhaps there are issues of which I am not aware. I thought it would be nice for the article.

[edit] Name of article

I have removed "King" and am reverting to original name as per WP:MOS about honorifics-Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom doesn't have her queenly title, and Akihito isn't referred to imperially in his namespace. Chris 00:50, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
