[edit] Jiffy Pop as metaphor: How to discuss?
In doing a Google search for "Jiffy Pop" + "history," I found many, many references in which "Jiffy Pop" was used figuratively.
- http://www.angelfire.com/journal/cathbodua/Shamanism.html "What images jiffy-pop into your mind?"
- http://www.investmentu.com/research/momentuminvesting.pdf "It won't take long before your portfolio starts to act like a pan full of Jiffy Pop."
- http://lastdebate.blogspot.com/2005/07/was-george-bush-right-about-iraq.html "This was not MY notion of a jiffy-pop war"
and more straightforward comparisons:
- http://blog.wellsfargo.com/GuidedByHistory/2006/03/disaster_shack_part_2_1.html "we looked like we were sitting in a Jiffy Pop Popcorn bag—but it worked!" (reviewing an aluminum covered survival blanket)
It seems as if there ought to be some way to reference or explain these, or at least to comment that "Jiffy Pop" has a life as metaphor for convenience and speed, above and beyond its meaning as product. I just can't figure out the Wiki way to do it. Lawikitejana 08:32, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Would reference to difficulties in actually making jiffy-pop be appropriate?
I've never tried to make the stuff, but when I hear it mentioned by those who have they tend to comment on how hard it was to make edible popcorn with it. Apparently many people have difficulty with the 'technique' required to pop the corn without burning it, especially on an electric stove. I cant personally verify the difficulty, nor do I know how widespread these opinions are but I came to this page looking for those answers - 198.175.55.6 21:34, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] So what happened to the Microwaveable Jiffy Pop?
I recall there was a product that was microwaveable. Basically the same familiar package, but it replaced the silver foil with clear plastic. I haven't seen this product in a while; is it discontinued? - Theaveng 12:37, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
