Jiangbei District (Jiāngběi Qū) a district of Chongqing municipality which is currently undergoing much development. Recent visitors have reported ethnic tensions between the majority Han population and Tibetan refugees who settled there in the 1980's. Protests broke out in response to the greater movement for Tibetan Freedom and Human Rights in Jiangbei when it was announced that the route of the Olympic Torch was being diverted. Jiangbei is a notorious hub of anti-Chinese sentiment among the diaspora Tibetan population who now lives there.
