[edit] Biography
Jiang Meng, "Ah Meng", was born to a work-aholic father, the President of the university which he studies at, and a stay-at-home mother with one younger brother. With his father working constantly, Ah Meng learn not to depend on his father, who would always promised Ah Meng that he would take him to the fair when he was small, only to always break the promise. The constant broken promises soon led the young boy to losing his childhood fun. With his father always working and never staying home, Ah Meng's mother soon gave up trying to have a family. Eventually, the two couple divorce, with Ah Meng’s mother deciding to take his brother, Yuan Chuan Rang (Ah Rang), instead of him, leading Ah Meng to lose what he called Mother Love. Due to his harsh childhood, Ah Meng's personality soon transition into a personality of a "Devil" until he met Qi Yue.
[edit] Personality
Though known as the "Devil" in the story, Ah Meng is known to love his friends and family deeply. He is also quite protective and defensive over his classmates, thus leading him to beat up his middle school basketball teacher when the teacher once mocked a student who could not play basketball because he was too large. Coincidentally, the student that was being mocked was Yang Ping, who would later became Ah Meng's best friend. Ah Meng is also protective over Li Xiang, a classmate often bullied because of her arrogant and condescending attitude. He often would save her from being attacked by her bullies. It was later revealed in the drama that Li Xiang, once she reached college, would pay people to beat her up to attract the attention of Ah Meng, whom she calls "Prince". However, Ah Meng has never reciprocated her feelings for him.
Because Ah Meng's younger brother had always been sick as a child, Ah Meng often felt that he was given no attention from his mother and would often try to get her attention. His mother would often blame him for everything that happens, including her marriage to his father. Feeling unloved by his mother, Ah Meng shut himself away from other people, as well as growing to despise his brother, whom he envied because he always thought his mother loved him more. He also acts quite antagonistic towards his father on occasion, as his father tries to be a good father to Ah Meng in a variety of odd and annoying ways.
Dealing with emotional problems is often hard for Ah Meng, as he is not used to talking to people about his emotions. However, he slowly opens up, showing a softer and more romantic side to him when he and Qi Yue begin their relationship.
[edit] Relationships
[edit] Qi Yue
Throughout the entire drama, there are no evidences of Ah Meng having past girlfriends. The only relationships that had ever occurred for Ah Meng throughout the drama was with Qi Yue, his step-sister to-be. His grandmother tried to arrange a marriage with girl called Meidi in order for him to forget about Qi Yue. Of course, Lixiang was a girl that had tried to pursue Ah Meng as well, but there were never any love interest that bonded them.
Ah Meng's love for his future step-sister, Qi Yue, is one that is often complicated, as he doesn't always show her his true feelings. When they first met, he teased her and poke fun at her, though very quickly, he drew away and ignored her completely, causing her to be frustrated and angry with him. However, Ah Meng does not hesitate when it comes to protecting Qi Yue. He can be seen rescuing her whenever she has an emotional break down or when she's in danger. The two manage to start a relationship behind their parent's back after Ah Meng had caused Yuan Yi, Qi Yue's previous boyfriend, and Qi Yue to break up.
Balancing the status of being Qi Yue's brother and boyfriend isn't always easy, as Qi Yue's mother, who Ah Meng's dad is courting, often tells story about Qi Yue and the guy she first had a crush on, Ahsen. Ahsen became Ah Meng's prime rival for Qi Yue when he enters the story and try to supposedly steal Qi Yue away from Ah Meng, causing him to get frustrated and angry, as well as aggressive and threatening. Ahsen eventually gave up and left as he found out that Qi Yue had grown up and did not have a crush on him anymore.
Throughout the entire drama, Ah Meng promised Qi Yue many things, but is seen to break all of them except for their Christmas promise, which he promise her that he will give her happiness during the Christmas season, as Christmas is a symbol of happiness to Qi Yue. Though the two never broke up, they almost did when Ah Meng decides to go with his mum to Italy. A year later, though, he came back to give Qi Yue her "happiness" during Christmas.
[edit] Meidi
Once Ah Meng's grandmother had caught on on what Ah Meng and Qi Yue were doing, she immediately arranged for Ah Meng to get married to a girl whose name is Meidi. Shy with an innocent aura, Meidi is an innocent character in the drama that no one wants to hurt. She first met Ah Meng she was walking across the street and fell, dropping her glasses. He saved her when a car almost hit her, causing her to fall in love with him though she did not know that it was him at the time since she dropped her glasses.
She cancelled the wedding arrangement as she did not know it was Ah Meng who was supposed to be her marriage partner. However, while on a basketball training trip, she fell into a lake so Ah Meng jumped in to save her. She dropped her contact lens in the water and she recognised that it was Ah Meng who saved her before. She also knew about this because Ah Meng was missing a button on his jacket that Meidi had picked up when he saved her the first time. She became attached to him and tried to impress him with her Japanese, as she is fluent in it, and many other things, only to find that he doesn't care. She later picked up a moonstone ring that Ah Meng bought for Qi Yue's birthday and knew that he liked someone else. Ah Meng's friends hinted to her that Ah Meng likes someone else, supposedly the "moon" as "moon" in Chinese is a homophone of "Yue" from "Qi Yue". Meidi finally figured it out, but dos not reveal to Qi Yue and Ah Meng until Qi Yue confesses. Meidi then says she gives her 'blessing' to Big Sister and Ah Meng.
Weak and fragile, Ah Meng often scolds Meidi was being dependent on others. She also has a sickness in her that causes her to be dependent on chocolate, notably Ferrero Rocher. Before she left the drama altogether, Ah Meng throws a pack of gum after the car that she was in, telling her that she doesn't always have to depend on chocolate whenever she is sick.
