Jha is a surname of India, typically originating from the Mithilanchal. Jha's are Maithil Brahmins of the supreme order originating from Darbhanga and adjoining areas in present day Bihar. Their mother tongue is Maithili.
Myths about Jhas: The newly formed Jharkhand state is thought by many Bengalies to be named as the "state for the Jhas".[citation needed]
