[edit] Welcome

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!
Jrdioko

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

Thanks! Jh51681 01:04, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Wyrd

Hello, I just wanted to tell you that I revamped the article on Wyrd. You may want to check it out and help continue to improve it.

Yogensha 23:09, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't really have anything to add there since I just reverted vandalism, but thanks anyways. --jh51681 June 28, 2005 04:41 (UTC)

[edit] quick question

Sorry to bother you, noticed that you rv'ed the narcotic page back to the prior revision due to vandalism. I saw the vandalism earlier today, but couldn't figure out how to revert it back to the original aside from manually re-editing the text. Am I just missing an obvious link or something?

Thanks for any help.

mitomac

No problem. Click the time/date link for the version you want to revert back to, then click "Edit this page" and save the version you opened up. --jh51681 July 5, 2005 10:14 (UTC)

Thanks! --Mitomac July 5, 2005 15:56 (UTC)

[edit] Soundgarden

Eh woops about the song length. Musicmatch says 6:51 so i went with that over an anon. i even have the CD i just couldnt find it. Jobe6 03:37, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, it says that on the Allmusic listing too. Not always accurate but pretty close. --jh51681 03:43, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RuneScape cheats is under official attack

I want to thank you first for helping control vandals with the article: it's very appreciated. Now an official attack is being mounted by JAGeX to delete the article for 'copyright vandalism' violation (??) anyway PLEASE, comment on the talk page or the article is going to be deleted. [edit] You're welcome

You're welcome. I was watching that IP's contributions anyway, because I'd just warned him to stop or be blocked. He is, naturally enough, blocked now... ;-) -- SCZenz 07:11, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ctrl+Enter Shortcut

Wow, thanks, now I have my Ctrl+Enter shortcut back. I had no idea turning it on and off was actually an option. But I vaguely remember I used to be able to use Ctrl+Enter without the inline AutoComplete. Is that possible? --JianLi 03:09, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Neither did I, but I found a few discussions online that mentioned turning it on to get it back and went from those. It must be possible without the option but it's a mystery to both of us. :D I remember seeing IE prompts asking whether I'd like to turn on AutoComplete after using a textbox (search engine, etc.), so maybe that has something to do with it. --jh51681 18:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Metallica-2OfOne.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Metallica-2OfOne.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 03:37, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Revision number

Greetings. I recently reverted some vandalism for the first time, but I didn't know how to cite the version number. Since I noticed you had revert vandalism earlier on the page (for potato salad), I thought I would ask how to correct document vandalism reversion with revision numbers.

Thanks, EleosPrime 19:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I use a tool called Navigation popups to do this. It gives you a popup menu when you point at a hyperlink. One of the options is "rv" or "revert" where it cites the revision number automatically.
Another way to do it is using the "undo" link when you are viewing a diff page. It'll put the revision number in the edit summary for you. --jh51681 22:01, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, and for the userbox code fix. EleosPrime 14:28, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Countdown.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Countdown.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:22, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Megadeth-PeaceSells.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Megadeth-PeaceSells.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. βcommand 22:00, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

It's been replaced in the article already. Thanks. --jh51681 00:11, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NIN Wikiproject

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Nine Inch Nails WikiProject. There's alot of NIN-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few more Nine Inch Nails pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:PearlJam-Binaural.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:PearlJam-Binaural.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:44, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
