[edit] not sure what's going on
I created a page with the following content and an embedded image. For what the page is, it's pretty complete (and it needs to be simple, otherwise it isn't useful). It was immediately marked for speedy deletion, and I requested that it not be deleted also immediately. However, it now seems to be gone. What gives? What did I do wrong?
Step 1. Yell MOB!
Step 2. Point at the person in the water!
Step 3. Throw things that float!
Step 4. Go on a beam reach (perpendicular to the wind).
Step 5. Tack the boat through the wind.
Step 6. Go on a broad reach (almost a run).
Step 7. Come up to the person in the water on a close reach.
Step 8. Stop the boat!
Finally, attach the person to the boat, then drop your sails and use the halyards, boom, and/or winches to get the person back in the boat.

[edit] Welcome2 and your edit problem
Also Welcome, from this member of the welcoming committee, (and I'm on your problem above too, that's what led me here). Feel free to address any questions you may have to me whenever... I'm taking some break time now with summer, but I usually stop in for messages several times a day.
- Your Adds (problems)
Looks like the 'procedure' is somewhat too unencyclopediac as presented. Suggest fixing it up by boxing it (See any of the quoted text in Grantville Gazette VII to see what I'm thinking.) The other shortcoming would appear to be using abbreviations like 'MOB'... As a sailor of 30+ years experience, your procedure looks fine. Take such a box and shrink it to about 'width:40%' so text wraps around it, and the add will probably stand up fine. New editors get monitored closely for a while, so don't be surprised if such happens again. This was probably seen as vandalism seeing your brief list of contribs... a mistake. Go ahead and put it back.
If you are the image holder, it will have to be properly licensed under the GFDL, and the better place to upload it will be on the commons. I can help with that too as I'm doing a lot on that sister project as well these days. Best of Luck! // FrankB 18:05, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] thanks!!
I appreciate the rapid response! I'll get back to you if I have any other problems... sorry for the hassle. I do want to get this right.
[edit] OK, your ball, new court
Decided this was better title, and can hold several such procedures: Sailing/Man_Over_Board_Procedures, this is technically a sub-page like this. Suggest putting all such procedures into seperate sections would be a good way to go, but start by making yours more encyclopediac.
Your image I didn't bother with--I'm overdue in RL, but put that back too. Make the links to this page using '#Section_Name' in each place in the Sailing article, and using a pipe-trick to show a display title (See This in edit mode for how to do a pipetrick in a wikilink).
e.g. see (follow the redirect back from the article reached by clicking) Former British Nation you'll see: #redirect [[Commonwealth_Realm#Former_Commonwealth_Realms]] where everything after the 'number/pound sign' ('#') is the section of the article name. Everything before, the page reference part.
Drop me a note (my email is on my pages) when you think you've got it right, and I'll look it over. You may want to examin Yachting, Yachts, and related see also articles once you've got something good enough to add the link if not more. Don't forget power boats, ing, etc. (Warning: Wikipedia can be addictive! <g>)
Pending your improvements, I didn't link the new page, so update sailing when you've polished the presentation up some. I should be back around in six hours or so. Good luck, and have fun! // FrankB 19:22, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've had to nominate the sub-page for speedy deletion. Sorry about that. See: Man overboard; I think your image is better. I patched up the sailing article, but Boating needs work too. ttfn // FrankB 08:38, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

- Seems to be an awful lot being said to little effect. All that needed to be said was: sorry, the article is too much of an how-to guide for Wikipedia. I have moved it to User:Jganz/MOB for safe keeping. If you copy it to wikibooks:Man overboard you will probably find it accepted without any trouble. Remember to create a {{Wikibooks}} link from man overboard to the new article. Unless I am missing something, Wikibooks seems to have absolutely nothing about sailing so there is scope for you to create lots of new articles. -- RHaworth 13:49, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
