[edit] Title- Judaism in Omaha/Suggest change
The title would be better as "Jews in Omaha" or "Jewish community in Omaha", since the series of article is about ethnic groups, not just about their religions.--Parkwells (talk) 19:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- I was following the conventions presented at Category:Jews and Judaism in the United States by city; perhaps the name of the article should be Jews and Judaism in Omaha. • Freechild'sup? 19:54, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think that "Jes and Judaism in Omaha" would be a better title. In reading about Tillie Olsen, for instance, her parents were part of an active, secular Socialist community in North Omaha, as she was. They were apparently very active in labor organizing, so much was going on outside the synagogues.--Parkwells (talk) 04:06, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] History
This seems to be weighted heavily toward religious history of congregations and noteworthy rabbis, but other Omaha sources detail more about their other contributions. From what I've read, there was an active socialist community active in union organizing and working class politics, and I remember a Jewish Old People's Home was established, plus contributions toward other civic institutions. Will look more.--Parkwells (talk) 19:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC) Bold text
