Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

[edit] The Humungous Image Tagging Project
Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
[edit] South Park Republicans & Democrats
Thanks for the backup in there. It's been a battle since November. Any support would be helpful. googuse 04:07, Jan 24, 2005 (UTC)
Don't forget the South Park Democrats!...Uh, if there ARE anyone, that is! 'Prolly in Canada, that is ;) --OleMurder 18:12, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Autodidact Category
Jesse, this is a great category. But when you are adding the autodidact category to pages, be sure to make sure you include the "surname, first name" format after the "|" character within the brackets. (If you need to see an example to understand what I am talking about, look at the edits on James Merrill or David Geffen, which are now repaired.) This is to ensure that the entries appear in autobiographical order by last name on the Category page itself. Sandover 07:12, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed that was the standard but doing that for 180 pages would have taken more time than I had. I was counting on each page's primary editors to correct that.JesseHogan 16:37, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Hi Jesse, thanks for starting up the category for autodidacts; it's a good idea.--Nectarflowed 19:23, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for the recognition. JesseHogan 20:21, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Hey, don't worry about it, I had the time to do it and you didn't. Everyking 00:16, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] categories
Please understand the category system. There are categories within categories. Yes, humans are primates, but there are a few subcategories in category:primates. One of those is a better fit for the category:human, and that is category:apes. Humans are apes, apes are primates. There is no categorical reason to stick category:human in the broader category:primates. Even the description on category:human mentions hominid, which is even more narrow division within the apes (specifically, it's all the great apes). I'm restoring the category to its rightful place, and making mention of this note on category talk:human. - UtherSRG 14:35, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)
