[edit] Controversies

In the 1998 presidential election, Villanueva declared Jose de Venecia to be the "God mandated next president of the Philippines". In a huge religious/political rally for de Venecia, he announced it the Jesus Declaration of Victory(JDV), the initials of Jose De Venecia and claims it a fulfillment of prophetic vision for the Philippines as a great nation of God. De Venecia, however, lost to Joseph Estrada.

When Villanueva ran in the 2004 presidential election, he calls his candidacy a "prophetic gesture to redeem the Philippines". However, he placed last in a field of five candidates. [2]
