Jesus Freak is the fourth studio album by dc Talk, released in 1995 and debuting at #3 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart. It has gone on to sell over two million copies[1], achieving double platinum certification by the RIAA. The album was listed at #14 in the 2001 book CCM Presents: The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music.

Widely acclaimed by many to be the greatest Christian rock album of all-time, Jesus Freak changed the genre of Christian hip-hop and Christian rock in so many ways that it still influences bands today[citation needed]. The site Jesus Freak Hideout is also named for and inspired by this album. [2]

[edit] Freaked!

On June 20, 2006, Gotee Records, which is headed by dc Talk's Toby McKeehan, released a ten-year anniversary tribute called Freaked! This CD features artists from record labels Gotee and Mono vs Stereo remaking songs off of the original Jesus Freak album. Freaked! is not a true tenth-anniversary album, as it was released eleven-and-a-half years after Jesus Freak. Music critic Jonathan Oakes with Music Passion Magazine gave this album the esteemed album of the year award.

[edit] Trivia

  • "Day by Day" is a song from the musical Godspell
  • "Mind's Eye" features the words of Billy Graham
  • Right before "What If I Stumble" begins, a quote from Brennan Manning is heard
