Jesus, Once of Humble Birth

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a hymn about the Saviour Jesus Christ, traditionally sung in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since at least 1840 but still included in the 1985 hymnal. The early editions that had music had dynamics not known to the current one (quiet on the first stanza, loud on the second, quiet on the third and loud on the fourth). This hymn contrasts Jesus' humble beginnings on Earth with his glorious return at his second coming. ahmed

Hymn 187
7's
Jesus once of humble birth,
Now in glory comes to earth;
Once he suffered grief and pain -
Now he comes on earth to reign.

Once a meek and lowly lamb -
Now the Lord, the great I AM;
Once with thieves was crucified -
Now on yonder cloud he rides.

Once he groaned in blood and tears -
Now in glory he appears;
Once rejected by his own -
Now their king he shall become.

Once forsaken, left alone -
Now exalted to a throne;
Once all things he meekly bore -
But he now will bear no more.
