Jessica is the first album from the singer Jessica Simpson. It is a gospel album and it was released in 1994, when Jessica was fourteen years old. Jessica was recorded by Proclaim Records before the company had financial problems and had to close down.[1] Despite the setback, Simpson's parents and grandmother put forward their own money to get the album pressed.[1]
Simpson and her father then toured the Christian youth conferences, singing for the audences and selling the album from their car. Simpson's popularity and album came to attention of Columbia Records's CEO, Tommy Mottola.[2] Jessica's singing reminded him of that of his ex-wife Mariah Carey and he signed Simpson to Columbia Records for her follow up album titled Sweet Kisses.
