Jesse Wilder
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wilder first initiated his musical journey in the summer of 1992 forming a band, like many others in High School, teaming up with any friend with a passion to do so. Later that year the group gathered the fruits that would be deemed The Scholars. He pushed forward singing and fronting the group, not knowing how close he was to the break of the third ska wave. Sharing members of Reel Big Fish, the individual members of the band proceeded in different directions and disbanded in 1995. Shortly after that he co-wrote songs with Aaron Barrett for the successful Reel Big Fish.
Always thinking ahead, Jesse had cross-faded into another project with other friends such as Isaiah Ikey Owens (Mars Volta) and after six drummer changes finally became Teen Heroes. The understated Power Pop group that fronted the Orange County scene in the nineties sharing the stage with acts such as They Might Be Giants, Maroon 5 (then Kara's Flowers), Phantom Planet, Lit, Eve 6, etc. stayed above the surface strongly for a good time. At a Chain Reaction show in Anaheim the group bowed out of their career in Aug, 2000.
Still with the same drive, singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist Wilder was already teaming back up with musical sidekick Scott Klopfenstein of The Scholars and Reel Big Fish to record an album under the name of Pal. Grabbing Greg Parkin on drums and Ed Kampwirth on bass the album produced by John Avila of Oingo Boingo was a true treasure to the foursome. The album was not released until years later because of Klopfenstein's cotract with Mojo Records, but stands to be a gem in the underground fan community.
After writing and fronting so many projects it became known in his hometown of Long Beach, CA that he was looked to as a good "utility guy" for a musical job well done. He was hired on to play second guitar, keyboards and back up vocals for Neville Staple of The Specials, Chris Cacavas (Green on Red, Giant Sand, Calexico), and many others he just simply couldn't say no to.
The next few years were filled with Wilder's busiest tours. In a matter of a year he had traveled and performed in 9 different countries. As the these times subsided he stayed home to form another project that would finally write for again called Makeshit Love Affair, with Pal's bassist Ed Kampwirth and Chris Clawson of My Superhero and The Neville Staple project. At the same time Klopfenstein had been working on his own project accompanied once again with Greg Parkin on drums. Jesse soon later joined the group and toured that winter in England. The group was The Littlest Man Band and released it's album in September 2004. They officially broke up in 2006 as well as Makeshift Love Affair, for Kampwirth moved on to tour with Dios (Malos.) since then Jesse has played briefly with The All-American Rejects, studio sessions, and concentrated on engineering a little more
At the present time this multi-musical-tasker has invested 3 years into his seven piece mini indie rock orchestra dubbed ForceField On, and their first full length is due out in the winter of '07. At the same time he pulls out the utility guy card again for old bandmate Isaiah Ikey Owens in a hip hop meets dark indie rock side project called Look Daggers teaming up with rapper 2Mex of The Visionaries and other various underground hip hop names. Out of the band circuit he is also currently doing music composition and sound design for video games, film, and television. Collaborating with him on this is Teen Heroes guitarist Peter Berberich. Together they run the company Sound Snacks.
