From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jesús Zamudio Aliaga, now a fugitive from justice, is a retired colonel of the Peruvian army. He is known as ZAJ (from his initials) and El Chacal ("The Jackal"), from his time in Ayacucho in the mid 1980s where he formed "Lince", an anti-subversive group known for its human rights violations. During the Fujimori presidency, Zamudio was head of intelligence chief Vladimiro Montesinos's personal security detail. Zamudio participated in the successful military operation that ended the 1997 Japanese embassy hostage crisis, but was implicated in the extrajudicial killings of a number of the rebels.
