Jesús Marcelo de los Santos Fraga is a Mexican politician, member of the PAN party, and Governor of San Luis Potosí (2003-2009).
Marcelo de los Santos studied public accounting at Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP), and has spent most of his life practising his profession in a variety of organizations. He was heavily questioned regarding his involvement in the 1999 bankruptcy of the credit union "UNICRER", where his competence was seriously scrutinized[1]. He was also a soccer player and a lecturer at UASLP (reference needed).
In 1997 he joined the PAN and was a candidate for governor of San Luis Potosí, losing by a single percentage point (Reference needed). In 2000, he was Presidente Municipal (Major) de San Luis Potosí and in 2003, again a candidate for governor, eventually winning the election.
As governor, he has been questioned by his policies of blocking the press and even begin accused of vetoing media that he considers unpleasant[2]. The gross revenue of the state has also been under scrutiny, and San Luis Potosi has been classified as one of the states that less revenue receives both from federal participation and from their own local taxes [3].
