[edit] Summary
Jessie Mae Hemphill onstage in Memphis, 1980s. Photo © Lisa McGaughran, photographer. (Please provide photo credit attribution to photographer Lisa McGaughran if you use this photo, per the license terms.)
Description: Photo by Lisa McGaughran depicting Jessie Mae Hemphill onstage talking to the audience between songs at a Beale Street venue (either a restaurant or The Center for Southern Folklore itself, which at one time was supposedly located on Beale) during a music festival that was held throughout the Beale Street area indoor and outdoor venues that year.
I checked with the Center for Southern Folklore about the location/timing of the performance and think the event was a performance held at a 1980s Memphis Music and Heritage Festival, which The Center for Southern Folklore in Memphis holds annually around Labor Day. I think it was held in the mid to late 1980s period.
I'm trying to put this photo summary together the way I've seen it done on other photos since I'm told it's better if I upload it myself. I think I've done it correctly. I am the photographer and copyright owner, and I uploaded this myself with Creative Commons by Share Alike 2.5 licensing today. I will make sure the Permissions people know. If I ever pin down any more information on the exact date for my photo, I will try to update it.
I can be reached at my photo user page and my email address is also listed there at LisaMcG.
