[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia

Hello, Jeremiad, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

[edit] Newfoundland and Labrador related topics

Hi Adam,

You have a great interest in NL projects similar to my interest, that's great.

I believe that there are many more out there that also share our interest in getting as much information about Newfoundland entered into Wikipedia as possible. The problem is getting the message out.

From your bio you are attending a school in Mount Pearl. I have thought on occasion, wouldn't it be great if students from various school's around the province get involved as either a class project for geography or history or maybe a means to further some research on a specific topic. That way they can work as a team to create excellent articles.

Maybe it can be billed as challenge for schools in other communities to participate to bring out as much of the history and flavor of Newfoundland and Labrador as possibly can.

Critical to ensuring this kind of approach works is to get the teachers onside. Have you ever spoken to your teacher on Wikipedia, better still how did you become interested in Wikipedia?

I try and stay abreast of new articles about Newfoundland and Labrador as they are created. I do that by going into the article and selecting “What Links Here” and drill down to the very last article, which is the latest article entered pertaining to the topic. HJKeats 14:58, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Interesting idea, I think that there is a great interest in the history and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador in many students around the province. I also think that many would love a chance to put this information in a place where people around the world can see it.
I do see something that would be a stumbling block in any plan: many schools are blocked from editing Wikipedia because of vandals, I have tried to edit certain articles on occasion and it turned out that the school's IP adress has been blocked. Obviously this would be a problem if it was a school project.
And to answer your question, I got interested in Wikipedia after using it for doing some school projects, I thought it was an amazing ressouce and I thought it would be cool if I could get involved. Jeremiad 15:45, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for experimenting with the page Military of France on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. NetK 23:08, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, thats a mistake. I reverted vandalism and the bot made a mistake sending the message to me instead of the actual vandal. Jeremiad 23:14, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Newfoundland and Labrador WikiProject

There’s now a WikiProject for Newfoundland and Labrador. We hope you’ll join us in making Wikipedia a great source of information about the province and its people. OzLawyer 17:52, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bl removal

It was a subdivide of the longest list of names of communities. Like aa-am, then an -az, then Ba-Bm etc I thought it would have shown up in the Alpha list like it should have done and does on other pages WayneRay 23:19, 10 June 2006 (UTC)WayneRay

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the clean up of the mini lists within the NFLD article on the communities. I had not the time to get back to it this past week. I have been working on the Botony and horticulture interests on Wiki I have an interest in. WayneRay 15:22, 16 June 2006 (UTC)WayneRay

[edit] New Collaboration for Wikipedia:WikiProject Newfoundland and Labrador

A new article SS Florizel of Newfoundland and Labrador context has been created and we invite you to contribute to the article to firstly get it up to DYK status and hopefully to feature article status. The article is about a bit of Newfoundland's marine history and the sinking of the SS Florizel and it’s many passengers including a little girl Betty Munn. If you have any knowledge of the subject please pitch in add/edit and if not specific knowledge of the article if you could help by generating articles on any of the red-ink (wikified) topics, would be great. Thanks so much to help on this article. As a suggestion, maybe every Monday we could offer up a new topic to collaborate on and then pool our talents on that one. Oh and BTW did you catch the article that OzLawyer create on the Newfoundland Tricolour that made it to the Did you know? column on 5 July 2006.! HJKeats 23:23, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Commons Photos

I have just spend one weeks vacation on the west coast of Newfoundland and photographed quite a bit of the small coastal towns, post offices, lakes and Long Range Mountains. I have started adding the photos to the article List of communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, you can link there from our Wiki article by the same name. I will be adding more later and feel free to use them while expanding the communities articles WayneRay 14:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)WayneRay
