Jerry denied the Ledbetters are fictional, he has said they are real people he knows.

  • Ok. No problem. I was under the impression that they were fictional. Feel free to change it back. Joyous | Talk 19:46, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
  • On one of his recordings, Jerry says most of the stories he tells really happened and the Ledbetter characters he tells about are based on real people, but "Ledbetter" wasn't their real name. There is a picture of Jerry's graduating class in the book "Ain't God Good" and the caption says Ardel and Raynell are in the photo...so that, to me, bears out that many of the Ledbetter stories really happened.

Hope that helps...db66murray

  • No such place as Point Cedar, Al. Mr. Clower was speaking at the Alabama Dairy Convention in Point Clear, Al [How I Backed into Show Business][Various Recordings]--Wgmount 10:11, 3 August 2006 (UTC)wgmount

The Ledbetters are not fictional. Marcel lives in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area where he has family and friends. I know this to be a fact since I married one of his cousins from the King family right after hurricane Katrina last year in Baker, LA. .. bh

Anyone remember the name of Jerry's dog and what breed was it? He talked of it often in his stories but can't remember the name, unusual looking dog. Thanx , Tim

He frequently mentioned a number of different dogs, but the two most popular ones were "Highball" and "Brummie." Brummie was the one who treed the coon in the original coon hunting story that launched Jerry's career. If I'm recalling correctly, Highball was the dog that was so smart he stopped barking whenever he ran across posted land. Highball was ultimately killed by a train...again...if I'm remembering correctly. You may be thinking of the Catahoula Cur Dog, though. It stole a cookie and Jerry's brother wrestled it away, then put it on a fence post where the dog couldn't get it and said, "When it dries, it'll be alright." Hope that helps...db66murray
