[edit] Middle name

Has Tate replaced his middle name? Is "Sheffer" no longer part of his name? Under which name was he born? Badagnani 01:06, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, is Mr. Tate now editing this article? That's great! But the removal of "Sheffer" doesn't make sense, and it may confuse people who see that name from past concert programs but don't see any mention of that name. Even though he's not using it any longer, it should be mentioned, as we do for any other people born with one name but using another one now (like Bob Dylan, et al.). [edit] Corrected links / bias

removed two links that were self-created sources by the biographer per the Wikipedia guidelines: "Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason, self-published books, personal websites, and blogs are largely not acceptable as sources." Though they were unnecessary links, as the information claimed was of nominal and unquestioned importance.

The bias of this article may be suspect, though of minor importance most likely. The person's biography appears to be edited in part by the person himself, making a nuetral POV more difficult to assert. Secondary sources, other than links to personal web sites are encouraged in this article, per the Wikipedia guidelines: "Self-published material may be acceptable when produced by a well-known, professional researcher in a relevant field or a well-known professional journalist. These may be acceptable so long as their work has been previously published by reliable third-party publications. However, exercise caution: if the information in question is really worth reporting, someone else is likely to have done so."

[edit] corrected language to reflect linked citation

the former link to the American Composers Forum does not corroborate: 1. "Tate lives in Longmont, Colorado with his wife, Ursula Running Bear (Sicangu Lakota)" nor 2. "His nonagenarian grandmother, Juanita 'Little Bird' Tate, gave him the name Taloa' Ikbi, the Chickasaw word for 'composer'." The link is neither a secondary source nor authoritative to support these facts. The biography appearing on ACF site was created by Tate himself per ACF guidelines and web page creation. If the referenced link to ACF is important, it should be added to a sentence that it actually supports. I have added a sentence which does match the citation. Do not add citation links that do not provide authoritative evidence of what is being claimed. --—Preceding unsigned comment added by Brent Michael Davids (talkcontribs)

Sorry, the above doesn't make sense. There's no byline on the bio and those are obscure bits of information that are verifiable, and should be cited. I did nothing wrong in adding those references. Badagnani 19:42, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
