[edit] Constable Election

For the first time since 1948 the elections of all Constables will synchronised so that polling will take place on a single day in September 2008, in accordance with the Connétables (Jersey) Law 2008 (registered 28 March 2008). Each Constable represents one of the twelve parishes of Jersey.

Sitting Constable Derek Gray has announced that if re-elected in 2007 he will only serve until the 2008 election. Senator Leonard Norman has indicated that he will seek election as Constable at this time.

[edit] Senatorial election

The 2008 Senatorial election will take place in October 2008. The election is island wide and there are six seats available.

Two sitting Senators confirmed in 2007 that they would not be seeking re-election in 2008.

[edit] Deputy Elections

The 2008 election for Deputies will take place in November 2008.

[edit] Voting age reduced

The 2008 general election will be the first in which 16- and 17-year-old voters will take part, following a law to reduce voting age to 16. The law was brought into force on 12 March 2008, with effect from 1 April 2008.[1]
