Jerry Green (politics)

Gerald B. "Jerry" Green (born April 16, 1939) is an American Democratic politician, who has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since 1992, where he represents the 22nd legislative district.
Green has served as the Assembly's Speaker Pro Tempore since 2008. He was Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore from 2004-2007 and was the Deputy Speaker from 2002-2003. Green serves in the Assembly on the Housing and Local Government (as Chair) and on the Health and Senior Services Committee.[1]
Assemblyman Green served on the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1989-1991 and from 1982-1984, serving as the Board's Chair in 1990.[1] He served on the Union County Planning Board, the Parks & Recreation Committee, and Human Services and Economic Development. He also served on the Union County Adolescent Substance Abuse Program, the Private Industry Council, the Union County Municipal Utilities Authority, and is an honorary member of the Union County Police Chiefs Association. Green was one of the facilitators responsible for bringing the Union County College campus to Plainfield.
Assemblyman Green played a key role in returning Plainfield to an Abbott District status which has brought over $12 million per year to the district to educate the children and close to $200 million in construction dollars to renovate and build new schools. Green was one of the key sponsors of the bill that required institutions of higher education to install sprinklers in all dormitories.
Green is a resident of Plainfield.[2]

Each of the forty districts in the New Jersey Legislature has one representative in the New Jersey Senate and two members in the New Jersey General Assembly. The other representatives from the 22nd District for the 2008-2009 Legislative Session are:
