After attending a communications course at LYIT, Jerome began his career with NWR. He spent six years at NWR before moving to Highland Radio, an independent radio station based in Letterkenny, County Donegal. He lasted one year in the tough environs of Highland before leaving on Friday December 13 to work for TV3 before a spell with Sky News. [1] He eventually moved backed to TV3.

Jerome was also one of TV3's foremost reporters in the 2007 Irish general election, joining newsreader Alan Cantwell at the country's largest count centre, the RDS in Dublin, on Friday May 25, 2007 as the counting got underway.
[edit] Death threat
On Friday the 13th of July 2007 while Jerome was reporting for TV3 (at an inquest into the death of an Irish prisoner) outside Dublin City Coroner's Court he received a death threat live on air. Jerome was reporting for the main evening news when shouting could be heard coming from behind him. A man wearing a brown hoodie approached Jerome and pulled up his hood. "I'll blow your f**king head off", the man shouted. The man continued to make a gun shape with his hand at Jerome's face and said, "Ya f**kin' muppet" before the channel cut back to the shocked studio.[1]
There were fears for Jerome's life while the Irish Daily Star and his local radio station Highland Radio reported on the incident.

- He and Joanne Sweeney won News Broadcaster of the Year at the 2002 PPI Radio Awards while at Highland Radio. [2]
