Jernbaneverket, or the Norwegian National Rail Administration is the Norwegian national railway authority who is charged with maintaining the Norwegian railway network. The company is responsible for maintaining the track, stations and scheduling logistics, while safety oversight is the duty of the Norwegian Railway Inspectorate. This responsibility was previously part of NSB's duties, but on December 1, 1996 Jernbaneverket was fissioned out to a separate entity. They received their own chief executive and board from July 1, 1999. It is a subsidiary of the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications

Although the trains in Norway are mostly operated by NSB (for passenger trains) or CargoNet (for freight trains), Jernbaneverket maintains a small fleet of maintenance trains and track inspection railcars themselves. All of Jernbaneverkets trains are yellow and diesel operated. When BaneService was separated from Jernbaneverket in 2005, they took over most of the maintenance units.
