Jeremy Fisher (author)

Dr Jeremy Fisher, (born 9 November 1954) in Te Ahora, New Zealand, has been Executive Director of the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) since June 2004. He is a writer, and also worked in publishing for 30 years before his appointment. His best known work is the novel for young adults Perfect Timing (Harcourt Brace & Co, Sydney, 1993). This book is currently being translated in Vietnamese. More recent writing is available in Overland [1]. In 2007, Fisher was awarded a grant by the Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts to develop a work of literary non-fiction.[1] He was awarded the inaugural medal of the Australian Society of Indexers for his index to the fourth edition of the Australian Encyclopaedia in 1984 [2]. He was also President of the NSW Society of Editors in 1986. The ASA is the peak body representing Australia's literary creators.[3] As an advocate for authors, Fisher was instrumental in the establishment of the Prime Minister's Literature Prizes by the new Labor government of Kevin Rudd in December 2007[4]. Fisher is also an advocate for gay rights in Australia with a history of activism in this area since 1973.[5]
