Jeran Akers

Jeran Akers was the mayor of Plano, Texas from 2000-2002, and ran for the Republican nomination for Collin County Commissioner in 2006.

Akers was elected on May 6, 2000, with 64.17% of the vote, defeating opponent Dick Bode. Although mayors in Plano generally run without party identification, Akers has been a member of both the North Collin County Republicans and the Collin County Republicans Men’s Club since 1992. In addition to being mayor, Akers previously served on the Plano City Council from 1993-1999. This included service as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem from 1997-1998 and Mayor Pro Tem from 1998-1999. While Mayor of Plano, Akers founded the Collin County Mayors’ Alliance and was a member of the Metroplex Mayor’s Alliance. [1]

Akers graduated from the University of Alabama in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He then joined the United States Air Force the same year, earning the rank of captain. He served in the USAF until 1973. While in the Air Force, Akers received a Master of Arts in Public Administration. [1]

Akers founded Akers & Associates Inc., a manufacturer’s representative agency, and he has been with the company since 1979. He has served four years as a Regional Vice President of the National Association of General Merchandise Representatives, 1987-1987 and 1991-1993. Akers has been a member of the Plano Chamber of Commerce since 1992, serving on the Advisory Board from 2000-2002. [1]

In 1994, Akers received a Special Recognition from the City of Plano, a Certificate of Appreciation from the Plano Police Department, a Plaque of Appreciation from the Plano Police Association, and was recognized as a Rotarian of the Month from the Plano Rotary Club.[1]

Akers has lived in Plano, Texas since 1985. He has three children; Ty, Jan-Michael, and Josh.[1]
